Now THAT would’ve been the highlight of the tour.
A few weeks ago, comedian Theo Von shared a now-viral interview with an Amish kid on his This Past Weekend podcast. Hysterically titled “Young Amish Male”(for privacy reasons), who is currently on Rumspringa and exploring the world outside of his native Minnesota.
Rumspringa is a rite of passage for some Amish youth, typically starting around age 16, which he discuss in-depth on the podcast, where Amish teenagers can experience a period of increased freedom from parental and church rules, and after several years, sometimes longer as he explained during the episode, they ultimately have to decide if they want to become “English” or return to their home and keep the Amish lifestyle they’ve grown up in.
The kid was super entertaining and earnest with his responses, and of course, Theo got a huge kick out of him… as did everyone watching.
It’s a lifestyle many of us don’t know anything about, and because the Amish don’t really use technology, there aren’t many opportunities to learn more about their life and beliefs. So when Theo discussed it with his guest this week, fellow comedian Pete Davidson, Theo joked that Pete was off dating gorgeous models while he was stuck (for lack of a better word) interviewing the President and an Amish kid:
“I mean, at least you got to date a lot of beautiful women. I got stuck just interviewing the President and this Amish kid…I will say, a funny thing about him, one of my favorite things, I was like, ‘So, do you ever listen to music?’
He was like, ‘We do three hymns every day when we get to school, but every now and then, we’ll sneak off and listen to some Def Leppard.’ So f***** rock.”
Theo and Pete joked about how good that was for Def Leppard to get that kind of media because it certainly gave them some relevance, and Theo went onto tell Pete that the Amish kid also apparently listens to country star Morgan Wallen and rapper Gunna. Sounds like he’s gotten quite cultured during this little adventure:
“But that s*** made me laugh. And he said they listen to Morgan Wallen, and some Gunna… bring that up.”
They watched the clip from that part of the podcast, and laughed as they listened to the wide variety of music he listens to considering how little interaction he’s had with the outside world until now:
@dailycomedyplug This Amish guy knows elite ball when it comes to rap bro said he listens to Gunna
I wish Theo would’ve asked him about “soaking”

The best part, though, was when Theo told Pete about how Morgan enjoyed the episode so much, he wanted to have the Amish kid come do the iconic walkout with him, which became a nightly tradition on his One Night At A Time tour, which he carried on with his I’m the Problem tour this year.
Morgan’s had superstar guests come out to “Broadway Girls,” and sometimes other songs, at the start of the show, and has had people like Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Peyton Manning, and Kid Rock, among others, participate.
But Theo says Morgan wanted the Amish kid to come to one of the final concerts on this run, which ended in Edmonton, Canada, though there was one big problem… Theo says the Amish don’t have ID’s, and I don’t actually think that’s true in 2025, but this kid is only 16 and I’m fairly certain he doesn’t have a license yet, obviously, because the Amish don’t generally drive cars as far as I know.
In any event, it unfortunately didn’t work out:
“You know what one of the funny things is, Morgan Wallen and I were texting, and he’s like, ‘Man, what if that kid did that walkout with me at the concert?’
But he doesn’t have an ID… I think it was being considered for Canada, his show in Edmonton last week, but the Amish don’t get identification.”
That’s the walk out we deserved. Talk about something that would’ve broken the internet…
Maybe they can get him to a show in the United States, within driving distance, next year if he’s still on Rumspringa and can do it. I don’t think he’d ever want to go back after that, though. I mean, imagine explaining that one to everyone back in your Amish community…
Theo told Pete he wanted to have the kid back on to speak more in-depth, so maybe he can help him get in touch with Morgan so he’s ready to go when the next tour rolls around.
“I’m gonna get him to come back another time and get a little more in-depth with him.”
We need a duet “Amish Paradise”:
The full podcast with Davidson is available to watch below, and it’s one of my favorite ones he’s done in a while:
