Metallica Attains 20x Platinum on Self-Titled Album

It goes without saying that Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album is one of the best heavy metal records of all time. But, to emphasise what we’re all thinking, the numbers prove it too.

In recent news, Metallica has attained new RIAA certifications for two of their records. Firstly, their groundbreaking self-titled fifth studio album. Which has just hit 20x platinum, for sales amounting to 20 million copies. Insane, right? Alongside their critically acclaimed Master of Puppets (which hardly needs an introduction), has also been certified 8x platinum, having secured the eight million mark. 

Not to make this about numbers, but for a band to be getting these types of figures on records that are over two decades old is a huge flex. Though it’s hardly surprising, since these albums have paved the way for so many heavy metal bands today.

In other Metallica news, last week the group announced UK and EU dates for 2026, with two shows in London. Right now, the band are continuing their M72 World Tour, you know, the tour that never ends… So far, this is the third consecutive year this tour has run and has seen the band play to more than three million fans across the globe.

Pretty incredible stuff.
