Mark Sanchez taking a moment to wish everyone a Merry Christmas two months removed from his involvement in a strange stabbing incident.

It was back in early October that Sanchez was arrested after being stabbed in a bizarre altercation in Indianapolis, where the broadcaster was in town to call the game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders. Initially, it was reported that Sanchez was the victim of a stabbing early Saturday morning, with Fox Sports (now his former employer) releasing a statement shortly after the incident:

“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition. We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

Then things got a little complicated.

According to FOX59 out of Indiana, the police report stated that Mark Sanchez was initially uncooperative when officers arrived on the scene, and that the altercation actually may have started when the former NFL quarterback confronted a food delivery driver. The man reported that Sanchez then began threatening and following him before attacking him.

The delivery driver reportedly tried to use pepper spray, but when that didn’t work, he says he defended himself with a knife. The police report noted that both men were injured, with the delivery driver having a significant injury to his face. So the 39-year-old former footballer wasn’t exactly the victim that he was painted out to be initially.

Sanchez now faces a felony charge of battery involving serious bodily injury, which is a level 5 felony in the state of Indiana with a potential sentence of 1-6 years in prison. Shortly after Sanchez himself was released from the hospital, he broke his silence to thank the surgeon and medical team for saving his life, but made no further comment on the incident.

That is until today, when Mark Sanchez took to his Instagram account to share a picture of his wife, Perry, and their two kids. The picture also had this message attached, which wished all of his followers a “happy and peaceful holiday season” while subtly referencing the life-threatening situation he found himself in just a couple of months ago:

“This time of year always makes me look around and appreciate what matters, but this one hits different. I’m just grateful—to wake up, to be home, and to be able to wrap my arms around my wife and kids. Thank you to the people who kept me standing and gave my family opportunities to share moments like these. From our family to yours, we wish you a happy and peaceful holiday season.”

If you are to head to the comments section of that post (that’s always a dangerous thing), you’ll see a number of people showing support for the former football player and broadcaster. Then you’ll also see some people making light of the post, saying that Mark “took a stab” at an emotional message, and others saying that Sanchez should turn the comments off.
