Manchester United offer star new deal as three senior players get released

It’s the end of the road for Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof at Manchester United. The Red Devils have confirmed the trio will depart upon the expiration of their contracts in June. Evans is among the experienced trio to depart UnitedGetty Joining Lindelof, Evans and Eriksen out the exit door are academy players Hubert Graczyk, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, Tom Myles, James Nolan and Tom Wooster. However, they remain in discussions to extend goalkeeper Tom Heaton’s deal for the 2025/26 season. Heaton, 39, returned to Old Trafford in 2021 after 11 years away having come through United’s academy. Although he’s made just three first-team appearances during his second stint, Heaton’s experience behind the scenes had proved invaluable and is a key reason why the club wanted to extend him for another season. Eriksen signed off on his United career with a goal as he scored from the penalty spot during the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day of the 2024/25 campaign. The Dane ultimately made 108 appearances for United having joined in the summer of 2022. Evans came through the ranks at United and featured 198 times before he joined West Bromwich Albion in August 2015. However, the sale of the Northern Irishman to the Baggies caught legendary United boss Sir Alex Ferguson by surprise, with Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill detailing his reaction to the Belfast Telegraph in 2017. “In September after last year’s Euros, there was a conference in France for the coaches and Sir Alex was there talking about it and he openly said to me that he could not believe [Louis] Van Gaal had sold Jonny from United,” O’Neill said. “Because having seen him come through, he felt Jonny would spend his whole career at United or certainly to the latter stages of his career. Heaton is in line for one more year at Old TraffordGetty “I think there were a lot of factors why he ended up at West Brom. In the previous two years he had an injury and at Man Utd they had Ferdinand and Vidic and then Jonny and there was a succession plan that didn’t happen because of the change in manager. “At that time he was on the radar of other big clubs. I know that for a fact but they possibly had reservations about him because of the injuries he had and because he maybe hadn’t played as much in the previous 18 months. “That was just unfortunate.” Evans eventually found his way back to Old Trafford in July 2022 and went on to make 43 more appearances for the club. Lindelof’s release brings an end to his eight-year spell with United, in which he won the FA Cup and League Cup. The Swede featured 284 times in total for the club and scored four times. Lindelöf’s time at Manchester United is upGetty News of United’s end-of-season releases comes as they inch closer to securing a deal for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo. The Red Devils saw an earlier offer of £45m plus £10m in add-ons turned down by the west London club who valued the 25-year-old at £60m. It now appears that Brentford are likely to get their asking price which falls in the region of the £62.5m United are paying to secure the services of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Mbeumo is also set to land a sizeable wage increase to join United. The Cameroonian currently earns in the region of £50,000-a-week but is set to earn five times that amount with United happy to meet his weekly demands of £250,000.
