Major Lazer is making moves in 2025, announcing a new band member and releasing their first single of the year, “GANGSTA” featuring Kybba and dancehall veteran Busy Signal.

British-Jamaican artist America Foster has officially joined the group as its fourth member, joining founding members Diplo, Ape Drums and Walshy Fire. Foster made her live debut with the collective during a series of four sets at Paris’ Fête de la Musique in June before confirming the news via Instagram following their headline performance at Austria’s Electric Love Festival.

Out now via Diplo’s Mad Decent imprint, “GANGSTA” represents a strategic return to Major Lazer’s dancehall roots. The track reunites the group with Busy Signal, who previously collaborated on their 2013 breakthrough hit “Watch Out For This (Bumaye).”

The timing appears calculated as Major Lazer positions itself for a broader comeback. The group has been road-testing new material at live performances globally, suggesting an upcoming project in the works. Diplo emphasized the cyclical nature of the collaboration, noting how Busy Signal helped define Major Lazer’s early sound over a decade ago.

“Coming back out now with America and Busy Signal feels like starting a new chapter while revisiting an old one,” he said in a press release. “Busy Signal was a big part of our journey with Major Lazer, blessing us with his incredible vocals on ‘Bumaye,’ a massive single that helped define what Major Lazer was going to be.”

“Now, more than a decade later, we’re starting another journey with America joining the group. It’s amazing how much she complements the dynamic we’ve already established with Walshy and Ape Drums. While she’s not on this track as a vocalist, look out for her on some new music coming real soon.”
