Rest in peace, Randy White.
Late Sunday evening, news broke that Lorrie Morgan‘s husband, Randy White, passed away at the age of 72.
In 2024, Morgan’s husband was diagnosed with mouth cancer, and although he put up a fight to beat the cancer, the illness sadly took over his body, leading to his death. White passed on Sunday morning, and Morgan’s manager and longtime friend, Tony Conway, shared a statement from Lorrie Morgan with People Magazine to announce that her husband had passed away, and later shared the same statement on her social media channels.
“Randy has been my partner and my rock for 17 years. Our big, wonderful family and I are devastated at the loss of this truly kind and incredible man. I was blessed by his love. Ran-Ran, I will love and miss you forever.”
Lorrie Morgan and White were married in 2010 in a private beachside ceremony. Country music fans know Morgan best from her music career and for being married to the late, great country star Keith Whitley. Morgan and Whitley were married from 1986 until his death from alcohol poisoning in 1989 at the age of 34. During their marriage, they had one child together, Jesse Keith Whitley, who also shared a tender message with his fans and followers about the passing of his stepdad.
From Jesse Keith Whitley’s Facebook post, it is apparent that he and White were very close as he was a prominent father figure in his life, and his passing will be hard on him and his children.
“As I sit here in the room with hospice, I don’t know really what to think or to say about this situation. But, I can say that the recent years of my life all the way back to when I was 22-23 years old this great man has been here and loved my mom, and also me & my sister as we were his own. He showed me love and showed me a relationship with Jesus, even though I grew up Catholic, I kinda distanced myself a little from it.
He has been the best grandfather for my kids they could ever ask for. Has come and picked me up late night when it wasn’t safe to drive and was never mad … not even once (this happened multiple times lol). Even when I called from a jail cell he laughed at me and said, ‘Well I’ll be there in a little bit’ (boy mom was p*ssed).
He has shown unconditional love to my mother and been the most gentle soul to ever grace this entire family. As we say our goodbyes, I reminisce of all the good times we have had & the battles he has helped overcome.
I can’t tell you the amount of love that has poured in from fans, family, and friends. We will miss you always and forever, and our hearts are shattered in losing you. But you have fought one helluva fight, RanMan! Rest easy say hello to everyone and love on Weezy.”
Our thoughts go out to the Whitley and Morgan families during this time of mourning. Rest in peace, Randy White.
Although Morgan said that this song was written about Keith Whitley, given her long marriage to White, it seems like she would sing it for him as well. Listen to “If You Came Back From Heaven” before you go.
