LeAnn Rimes Shares Her Secret To Successful 14-Year Marriage To Eddie Cibrian

The secret to a successful marriage.

’90s country star, LeAnn Rimes, is sharing some of her best-kept secrets about her 14-year-long marriage to her husband, Eddie Cibrian. And given the public scrutiny their relationship was under at one point, if they can survive that, my ears are perked for her marriage advice.

For those not familiar, Rimes was involved in a highly publicized extramarital affair with actor Eddie Cibrian in 2009, whom she met while working on the TV film Northern Lights. They were first seen getting close while eating at a restaurant, though Cibrian was married to Real Housewives star Brandi Glanville at the time, who is also the mother of his two sons.

Cibrian was not the only one cheating on their spouse, as Rimes was married to renowned chef Dean Sheremet during that time, and it was Cibrian’s wife, Brandi, who ultimately first filed for divorce as a result of the affair in August of 2009, after eight years of marriage. Rimes and Cibrian got married in April of 2011, and they have been married ever since. During an interview with ABC at the time, Rimes expressed regret for how it all happened, but not “the outcome”:

“I did one of the most selfish things that I possibly could do, in hurting someone else. I take responsibility for everything I’ve done. I hate that people got hurt. But I don’t regret the outcome.”

In an interview earlier this year with Flow Space, Rimes opened up about the past, her affair, the feelings of isolation associated with it, and how much she has changed as a person since then. Rimes was also candid about the affair, saying she understands how many women have been hurt on “both sides of that coin,” saying she has been cheated on before in addition to being someone who cheated.

Obviously, she caused pop culture chaos with her actions, and cheating is never the solution when in an unhappy relationship. However, you have to give it to Rimes for sitting and speaking so candidly about her affair.

“I realized very quickly that there are a lot of women who’ve been hurt. Like, I’ve been on both sides of that coin—I’ve been cheated on, too, so I know that feeling. But so many women don’t know what to do with that anger… I was a target that was just easily projected upon. And once I realized that, things got a lot easier.

Instead of taking it so personally, it’s like, look: This is not all my pain to carry. I know what I’m responsible for in the situation and making amends for that. But you know, the world’s pain is not mine to carry, and I think that really got thrown at me for a long time.”

However, the fact that both Rimes and Cibrian came out of this scandal stronger proved their love, and now the pair have been happily married for 14 years. So, what’s her secret for keeping a healthy relationship and surviving hardships early on?

During a recent interview with E! News, she shared that it’s all about being present with each other.

“It’s about just being present with each other, honestly. You think you know someone, but in 15 years, you evolve so much. It’s like learning every day when you wake up.”

She also said that laughter is always a healthy way to stay connected to your partner.

“We’re really so happy and we do laugh a lot, which is a good thing.” 

It’s nice to see Rimes stepping back out and speaking publicly on all these matters after disappearing from the limelight for quite some time after the scandal. However, she’s recently performed at major country award shows like the ACM Awards, where she performed her hit “Blue.” She’s also starring in the upcoming series 9-1-1, Nashville. This role is Rimes’ return to acting after over seven years, with a villain role in the series.

As she returns to the TV screen, her husband is cheering her on throughout “all the incarnations of each other.”
