Does the Landman cast have room for a couple of country music artists?
The second season of the hit Paramount+ show is well underway. Though some fans have nitpicked Landman’s second season thus far, most are just happy to see Billy Bob Thornton and the rest of the cast back on their screen exploring the world of Texas oil.
Since I mentioned the cast already, I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out the importance of actors and actresses like Ali Larter, Demi Moore and the recent addition of Sam Elliott to the story. They bring stellar performances to the small screen week in and week out, and Billy Bob Thornton holds the world altogether… the best that he can.
With how impressive the cast already is, it’s hard to imagine even more characters getting added into the fold. There’s only so much screen time to go around, and it certainly seems like they’ve found a bit of a sweet spot (depending on who you ask) with Landman’s characters.
But if an opportunity presented itself for an actor and actress to return to the Taylor Sheridan universe, it might be hard to pass up.
Taylor Sheridan loves to bring people in that he’s already worked with elsewhere, so it’s not like it would be out of the norm for stars from 1883 to jump over to Landman. And to be clear, there’s not speculation of that happening just yet. All that exists is a question that Entertainment Tonight asked Billy Bob Thornton while he was at the 2025 CMA Awards.
The man who plays Tommy Norris was asked how he’d feel about Tim McGraw and Faith Hill joining the Landman cast, and he was totally on board with the idea. You likely remember that Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were the stars of Taylor Sheridan’s prequel to the hit series Yellowstone, 1883, which went for one season and consisted of 10 episodes as the earliest Dutton settlers fought their way West and eventually settled on the modern-day Dutton Ranch. Of course, Thornton also appeared in 1883, in a brief role as Marshal Jim Courtright.
But the country music duo held their own in the acting world, and Thornton thinks that they’d be a great addition to Landman, but conceded that it’s not really his call:
“Well, that would be awesome if they do. But you know, Taylor Sheridan, he kind of picks and chooses whatever he wants for the show.”
And that’s true.
The Landman and Yellowstone creator often writes parts with specific actors and actresses in mind. Thornton and Jon Hamm have both previously spoke on how relaxed and straightforward joining a Taylor Sheridan show is. Basically, you hear from Sheridan about a part, you meet with Sheridan, and then you work with him. That’s actually what happened with Andy Garcia’s Landman role as well… it’s a real straightforward, no nonsense process.
Thornton thinks there’s a chance that Hill and McGraw could join Landman, just because Sheridan has a history pull actors and actresses he’s worked with previously into his new projects. But he doesn’t think he’d be able to sway the show’s creator:
“We don’t have a lot of clout in terms of that. But maybe we’ll bring their names up and see what happens.”
Never hurts to ask.
I don’t know about you, but I’d love to see Tim McGraw and Faith Hill back together underneath the Taylor Sheridan umbrella. They obviously wouldn’t be reprising their roles as James and Margaret Dutton, but if they could come anywhere close to those performances with new characters in Landman, fans would be in for a real treat.
