Lainey Wilson Recaps Her MASSIVE Year In The Most Lainey Way Possible: “We Bent It Over Our Knee”

Well, that’s one way to put it…

Lainey Wilson has had a huge year in 2025, with the pinnacle being her win for Entertainer of the Year at the CMA Awards, marking her second win in that category. She also hosted the show solo, and took home Album of the Year for Whirlwind and Female Vocalist of the Year.

She continued with several #1 radio hits, acted in her first major motion picture Reminders Of Him which will be out in 2026, and she also embarked on an extensive Whirlwind tour. In terms of her personal life, Lainey got engaged to her longtime boyfriend Duck Hodges in February, and they have plans to get married next year.

I’m sure there’s more than a few things I’m missing, but suffice all that to say, Lainey had a massive, very successful year, and she’s taking time to reflect on how much it has meant to her.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, Lainey says she has rediscovered her “why” in 2025, which simply comes down to being honest in her songwriting so that she can make others feel more understood through her music. She added that she continues to use it as an outlet to make sense of the world, and she has tried hard to stay rooted in reality and let the Lord carry her.

But in typical Lainey fashion, she summed it up with a hilarious one-liner, saying she “bent it over the knee and wore its little a** out”:

“I feel like every time I looked up in 2025 I was reminded of my ‘why?’ My ‘why’ is to try to tell the truth in a way that lets you recognize your own story. It is to honor where I came from while still trying to build something that is bigger than me. It is to use my voice in a way that bridges the gap between the hurt and the healing. It is to take the meaning out of the Whirlwind instead of being swallowed by it. Music ain’t just something I do.

It’s how I try to make sense of the world… and since I have yet to make complete sense of the world, I guess I’ll be doing this til the day I can’t. Here is to another year of learning that momentum is a gift and not guaranteed. That when dreams move faster than you do, stay rooted and let the Lord carry you. Here is the bird’s eye view of 2025. To sum it up, we bent it over our knee and wore its little a$$ out.”

Now that’s the way to take on a new year… and I’d say it marks a very good year prior.

She also shared a montage of some of the highlights of her 2025, which you can watch below:

One of my favorite Lainey moments was more recently at the aforementioned CMA Awards, where she let online internet trolls have it during her speech for winning Female Vocalist of the Year, straight up calling out the “folks that are sitting at home in your mama’s basement eating your Cheetos” who are “trying to pit women against each other,” saying they need to “find something better to do”:

“I just want to say, find those people that life you up and encourage you and pray for you, pray with you. Love on you, on the good days, on the bad days, all of it.

And for the folks that are sitting at home in your mama’s basement eating your Cheetos trying to pit women against each other, y’all need to find something better to do. “

I couldn’t have said it any better myself… Lainey has a way with words, we all know that.
