Kyle Walker reveals ex-teammate’s influence after completing shock Burnley transfer

Burnley have completed the shock signing of Kyle Walker from Manchester City, talkSPORT understands. The six-time Premier League champion joins the Clarets in a surprise £5million move. The right-back spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan, but the Italians opted against signing him permanently. talkSPORT has previously reported interest from Everton and Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce had made an offer. But now Walker will move to Turf Moor instead. Burnley were promoted back to the Premier League last season after finishing second in the Championship behind Leeds United. Walker has the third-highest number of games in the Premier League throughout his career out of all active players. Walker won’t be surprised by his exit though, after revealing that Guardiola gave him a full farewell before his loan to AC Milan. “When you come to say goodbye, it’s hard,” Walker said on his podcast about his loan spell in Italy. “After I said my goodbyes, Pep got up and spoke and said a really nice message to me, just saying thank you for everything. “But listen, it’s not over, I’m just on loan here [AC Milan]. Listen, the chapter’s not fully closed, but we’ll see what happens.” Walker didn’t want to confirm whether he’d be heading back to Manchester to continue playing or not. But now that chapter has ended and he’ll be playing in claret and blue in the Premier League next season. Burnley’s first pre-season game comes on July 26 as they take on Huddersfield Town, with Walker potentially involved. Their first top-flight game of the campaign will come against one of his former clubs, away at Tottenham. He will reunite with Man City on September 27 at the Etihad.
