Music production software company Excite Audio has partnered with chart-topping dance music producer KSHMR to launch "Bloom KSHMR," a new virtual instrument that bridges the gap between traditional Indian music and modern electronic production.

KSHMR, whose real name is Niles Hollowell-Dhar, has long channeled his Indian heritage through his music and his entrepreneurial endeavors. His stage name derives from Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian state from where his father's family hails.

"My world in India was very small and limited to my grandparent's colony," Hollowell-Dhar told EDM.com in a 2021 interview. "But when I started to come to India for music, I went to places like Goa, got to spend more time in Mumbai, and discovered a whole different side of India."

His new "Bloom KSHMR" instrument promises to democratize access to those authentic South Asian sounds for producers worldwide. And the timing couldn't be better. As today's music consumption increasingly embraces cross-cultural fusion—think the meteoric rise of Bollywood-influenced tracks on TikTok and the growing popularity of Indian-electronic crossovers—artists have been searching for authentic tools that go beyond generic "world music" sample packs.

"Bloom KSHMR" ships with over 250 presets featuring everything from traditional tabla rhythms to soaring bansuri flute melodies. KSHMR himself carefully curated every sound.

The instrument's sequencer engine allows producers to combine one-shots and loops into synchronized phrases that automatically match their project's tempo, solving the age-old problem of trying to fit traditional percussion patterns into modern 4/4 structures. The samples also retain the dynamic nuances of live performance while offering the precision control that electronic music producers demand.

Where "Bloom KSHMR" gets interesting is in its customization capabilities. The instrument's Edit page provides full sampler functionality, allowing users to manipulate attack and release, playback direction, pitch and panning. More importantly, producers can drag and drop their own samples directly into the interface.

The software includes four powerful macros designed by KSHMR: Lo-Fi, Tube, Width and Space. Three additional versatile effects round out the sound-shaping arsenal, allowing producers to emulate his signature aesthetic.

Whether creating the next Bollywood banger or adding exotic flavors to EDM beats, the tool offers a compelling entry point for musicians looking to incorporate South Asian elements into their production.

The real test, however, will be whether "Bloom KSHMR" can go beyond the novelty factor and become a genuine creative tool. Based on the track record of its creator and the depth of its customization options, the instrument appears positioned to do exactly that.

"Bloom KSHMR" is available now through Plugin Boutique. An introductory sale is offering up to 50% off until July 31st, 2025 at 11:59 PST. Rent-to-own options are also available.
