Frankly, there’s something wrong with you if you don’t partake in the musical stylings of Muscadine Bloodline. Together, Charlie Muncaster and Gary Stanton are certainly one of country music’s best independent bands. How do I know that?

Well, they came up multiple times in our most recent episode of the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast. That gotta stand for something, am I right?

Koe Wetzel returned to the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast to talk about his most recent album 9 Lives, what it’s been like gaining mainstream notoriety and working more in Nashville, having such a passionate fan base, becoming a dad soon, going on tour with Hardy this summer, and much more.

We heavily inquired about anything in the new music realm from Koe, and he happily told us that he had plenty of songs to go around… and was currently trying to figure out how they work into not one, but two different albums. That’s great news.

That lead us to asking about any possible collaborations on upcoming projects. Wetzel responded with this not-so-promising answer:

“We keep talking about it, but I don’t know. It’s kind of up in the air right now. Hopefully maybe. I haven’t wrote anything with anybody.”

Bummer.

But almost hilariously, Koe proceeded to pull the rug out from underneath us, so to speak. He barely got done with that prior quote before he bursted into this somewhat exciting news about a potential collab with Muscadine Bloodline:

“I was with Muscadine Bloodline the other day and we got a pretty cool one down. I don’t know if that’ll be a collab at all. It was good getting back in the studio with those guys and just chopping it up. It’s been a while since we’ve been together.”

So they got together, spent some time in the studio, and “got a pretty cool one down,” but that doesn’t mean that there’s a collab on the way. However, to be clear, Koe didn’t firmly say that it wouldn’t be a collaboration at some point.

To quote Dumb and Dumber, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance?”

Wetzel went on to say that in the modern age of music, it’s more surprising when an album isn’t chock full of collaborations:

“I feel like everybody’s collabing with everybody these days.”

Take that last quote how you wish.

Though there’s some doubt as to whether Koe’s next project could feature other artists, there’s absolutely no doubt that Wetzel appreciates what Muscadine Bloodline is doing in the country music space. When we asked the country star if there was a song that he had on repeat right now, Koe instinctively responded with a track from the country duo:

“‘Way Too High’ by Muscadine Bloodline. I don’t know what it is. I told them in the studio last week, I was like, ‘Man, that’s a tune.’ You’ve got Gary rapping on it in the very beginning. I’ve got it on repeat.”
