Kayla Wallace, Who Plays Lawyer Rebecca Falcone In ‘Landman,’ Says Billy Bob Thornton’s Reaction To Her In The Pirate Outfit Was Totally Genuine

You could just tell how fun this episode was to film.

The second season of Landman premiered back in mid-November, and the show boasting a cast of Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Sam Elliott, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, and Michelle Randolph – among others – once again had massive ratings.

Season 2’s premiere holds the title of the biggest season or series premiere ever for Paramount+. More than 9 million people viewed the first episode of the second season in the first fews days it was available on the streamer. That number was more than triple what the series premiere of Landman did in 2024.

So it’s another Taylor Sheridan hit, and of course, the entire show revolves around Billy Bob Thornton’s character Tommy Norris, who is an oilman doing his best to juggle the complications of the Texas oil industry with his rather intricate and sometimes explosive family life. If it feels as though Thornton is the perfect fit for the role, that’s because he is. Taylor Sheridan handpicked him to play the Landman lead, as the show creator does with many of his shows.

And during this past week’s episode, Tommy’s wife (well, technically, I don’t think they’ve actually gotten remarried yet, but I digress…), Angela, who is played by Ali Larter, threw a Pirate-themed dinner for her father-in-law, TL, played by Sam Elliott, to celebrate him moving in with them.

And all of the main characters were there, including Tommy, Angela, TL, Cooper (Jacob Lofland), Ainsley (Michelle Randolph), along with household members Dale Bradley (James Jordan) and Nate (Colm Feore), and neighbor Shelby (Audrey McGraw).

Also in attendance is MTex’s lawyer Rebecca Falcone, who is played by Kayla Wallace, and is a no-nonsense, big-city lawyer who was brought in during the first Season to handle legal crises for the M-Tex oil company.

And considering that she seems like the total opposite of someone who would want to dress up and be part of this pirate party, and she’s the first person Tommy sees when he walks in the door, his reaction is priceless.

During an interview with The Movie Podcast, Falcone revealed that it was Billy’s genuine reaction to seeing her “in that getup”:

“That was Billy’s genuine reaction to seeing me in that getup.”

I remember thinking to myself, Thornton is a great actor, but that really looked like a real-life reaction… you could just tell how genuine it was, and that’s what made that moment so great when he first walked through the door.

Falcone added that she did her fitting for that costume the same day she tried on one of the new suits for the episode, and it was funny to see the contrast when she looked through the photos they sent to production. She says filming the pirate dinner was “a very fun day on set,” as you can probably imagine:

“I remember my costume fitting for that episode, and our wonderful designer Janie put me in one of my new suits, and then the next look we tried on was the pirate stuff.

I just remember looking at the, because they take photos of you to send it to production, and I remember looking at the suit and then swiping, and then seeing the pirate outfit. It was just ridiculous and it made for a very fun day on set.”

I honestly wish we could’ve seen more of the dinner because it was so elaborate, but I’m sure there will be plenty more themed dinners to come with Angela in charge…
