It’s been a massive year for Kaitlin Butts. The Oklahoma native dropped her debut album in 2015, and followed it up with What Else Can She Do in 2022. But earlier this year, she scored her first viral hit with “You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)” from her 2024 album Roadrunner!
But as it turns out, 2025 is also turning out to be a big year for two of her good friends.
During a recent show in her home state, Kaitlin helped her guitar player orchestrate a surprise onstage proposal to his girlfriend – who also happens to be Kaitlin’s college roommate and tour manager.
To get her tour manager onstage, Kaitlin had to use some trickery and fake a wardrobe malfunction:
“We’ve got a wardrobe malfunction. Welcome to the stage, my friend Sophia Wells. This is my tour manager.”
But even after Wells helped her get her corset tied up, Kaitlin kept her on stage to tell the story of how they met:
“This is actually, I’m kind of glad this is happening. We actually met here in Oklahoma City about 13 years ago. This is my college roommate from Oklahoma City. We went to college here. Say hello, Sophia.”
And years later, Sophia slid into her DMs one night asking about her cute guitar player…so Kaitlin offered her a job:
“Two years ago today, or this month, I guess. This beautiful woman…don’t go anywhere. Hang on. This is a special moment for me.
This beautiful woman DM’d me on Instagram… She was kind of drunk. She said, ‘Hey, your guitar player is really cute and really hot. Am I just drunk? Do you need a background singer?’
And I said, ‘No, but I need a tour manager.’ And she’s been working for me for the last two years. And I’m just honored to have her.”
Wells looked slightly embarrassed during the whole monologue, but it’s then that Kaitlin pulled off the real surprise:
“And I think she should turn around right now, too.”
When she turned around, her boyfriend (and Kaitlin’s guitar player) Adam Duran dropped to one knee and pulled out a ring, much to Sophia’s surprise and to the crowd’s delight.

Of course she said yes, and afterwards she shared photos of the moment on her social media:
“Forever the Johnny to my June…
Got engaged in front of 5,000 people this week and I don’t know if I will ever fully recover. On tour we joke that “the road giveth & the road taketh”…….well the road has officially given me the greatest gift of my life. A thousand times yes, my love. I’ll continue to tell more of our story soon, but for now I’ll just leave this here”
Seems like 2025 is shaping up to be a pretty good year for not only Kaitlin, but her band and a crew. You love to see it, and obvious congratulations are in order for the happy couple.
