Jelly Roll Lays Down Respectable Cover Of Luke Combs’ “Beer Never Broke My Heart” During Surprise Performance At His Goodnight Nashville Bar

Jelly Roll dropped into his own downtown Nashville bar last night and gave fans quite the show. Jelly Roll dropped into his own downtown Nashville bar last night and gave fans quite the show.

The rapper-turned-country-artist opened up his Goodnight Nashville bar in early 2025, and joined the ranks of other country stars that have their name plastered up on a Broadway establishment. I’ve personally been to Jelly Roll’s spot, and I’ll say that it’s not my favorite place to go in Downtown Nashville… but it does exude everything Jelly Roll.

If you are a fan of the “Need A Favor” singer, then you’d definitely like the vibes that Goodnight Nashville has to offer.

Individuals in Nashville last night really had a great time at Jelly Roll’s bar because Jelly Roll himself was there. It’s not often that the artists with their name up on the sign actually show face at “their bars” (I use quotations there because most Broadway bars are owned by restaurant groups and the name is licensed to the artists). When it does happen… it’s kind of a big deal.

And it was hard to miss Jelly Roll at Goodnight Nashville last night. Why? Well, he got up on stage and sang a bit for those that were there hanging out and having drinks. The Nashvillian decided not to hit his fans with a song of his own, but instead with a cover of another country superstar’s hit song.

Jelly Roll fired up Luke Combs’ “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” and I’ve got to be honest with you… it wasn’t bad at all. Obviously, it’ll forever be Combs’ song and anyone else trying to tackle it often comes up short. But Jelly Roll did the song justice, and the energy-packed chorus was well within his wheelhouse.

Jelly also got some help from the bar-goers that were there, which undoubtedly helped elevate the performance:

Pretty solid, eh?

Now that I’ve seen Jelly Roll tackle a Luke Combs song, I’d like to see things vice-versa. Both Luke and Jelly have a certain gravely-sound to their vocals (though I’d venture to say Combs is more gifted vocally), so it might be a situation where either artist could comfortable handle one another’s catalogues.

At the very least, the good folks who were in attendance at Goodnight Nashville were happy with Jelly Roll’s cover of the Luke Combs hit. And like I said, it’s a song that Jelly certainly seems comfortable with, and could easily fit into his own collection of music.

That being said… I don’t think any cover will ever top the original version that Luke Combs laid down in 2019. It’s a staple of Combs’ catalogue, and it helped launch him into the superstar that he is today. There aren’t many people out there that can listen to it without instinctively wanting to raise a beer up in the air and shout the chorus that celebrates the fact that an ice cold beer is always there for you when you need it.
