Director Taylor Sheridan and actor Jon Bernthal teaming up? The interest could be there from both sides… but only time will tell if anything ever comes from it.
Nowadays, anyone and everyone is trying to get a piece of the success that comes from being involved with a Taylor Sheridan project. Fans of his various TV shows and movies eat up anything that the director, writer and actor puts out, and Hollywood executives have certainly taken notice of Sheridan’s overwhelming ability to make anything that he touches turn to gold.
Do I really need to lay out his body of work to make the point? I mean the Yellowstone brand alone is valued at over $3 billion. Yeah, that’s right… with a “b.” Just in case you need to see things listed out, here are some of Taylor Sheridan’s biggest and most lucrative TV shows and movies to date:
–Yellowstone
-Sicario
– Wind River
-1883 (Yellowstone Spinoff)
-Mayor of Kingstown
-1923 (Yellowstone Spinoff)
-Hell Or High Water
–Landman
-Tulsa King
And that’s somehow just scratching the surface. Sheridan has long been a talented director and show runner, but it’s only in recent years that the amount of total projects with his name attached have risen exponentially. The man may have single handedly revived the western drama, and there’s one actor out there that would love to help him continue that trend.
Jon Bernthal, who for my money is one of the most underrated guys in the business, is a 48-year-old actor who’s IMDB page is riddled with impressive roles. He got his big break back in the day on AMC’s The Walking Dead, playing the character Shane Walsh. Since then, he’s also starred in such projects as Fury, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Bear, and even plays the iconic anti-hero “The Punisher” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Bernthal also has Sheridan’s Sicario, Wind River and Those Who Wish Me Dead on the long list of projects he was a part of, and the time that he and Sheridan spent together while making those masterpieces has evidently stuck with the actor.
While speaking to Boss Hunting, Jon Bernthal had nothing but praise for the Yellowstone creator, saying:
“I’ll be honest with you, I’ll do anything with Taylor. I love Taylor. As a filmmaker, as a human being, as an artist, he’s as solid as they get. I love the guy.”
Anything, eh?
Bernthal got hit with another wonderful question asking if there was a western movie out there that he’d love to remake with Taylor Sheridan attached. It was almost as if the actor had been waiting for that question his entire life, because he had an all-time western right there at his disposal as a remake idea:
“Oh man… ‘Shane.'”
As I touched on earlier, Jon Bernthal already has some experience playing a character named “Shane.” But this film that was originally released in 1953 – starring Alan Ladd – doesn’t have any zombies in it. As you’ll be able to gather from the detailed synopsis of the movie, Shane is a classic gunslinger tale that seems like it would be perfect with Jon Bernthal at the helm:
“Enigmatic gunslinger Shane (Alan Ladd) rides into a small Wyoming town with hopes of quietly settling down as a farmhand. Taking a job on homesteader Joe Starrett’s (Van Heflin) farm, Shane is drawn into a battle between the townsfolk and ruthless cattle baron Rufus Ryker (Emile Meyer). Shane’s growing attraction to Starrett’s wife, Marian (Jean Arthur), and his fondness for their son Joey (Brandon de Wilde), who idolizes Shane, force Shane to realize that he must thwart Ryker’s plan.”
Alright… I’ve heard enough. On the rare chance that you are reading this Taylor Sheridan, get in touch with Jon Bernthal and let’s make this western movie remake happen.
Just imagine his iconic portrayal of Shane in cowboy getup hitting his western movie co-star (whoever that may be) with hundreds of “let me ask you somethings” on the big screen:
