Tipping his hat to the late, great Ozzy Osbourne.
Last week, Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness, died at the age of 76. The famed rock and roll singer and Black Sabbath frontman put on his final performance shortly before passing. It was apparent that his health was deteriorating from his Parkinson’s disease. Still, given that his voice was spot on during this final performance, the heartbreaking news of his death was even more shocking. Osbourne’s family shared a statement with fans and the public, stating that the “Crazy Train” singer took his final breath surrounded by family.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family’s privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”
Since his death, many artists have paid tribute to the legend, including country singers Jon Pardi and Marcus King.

While Ozzy Osbourne had no interest in dabbling in country music, he once hilariously told Rolling Stone that he had no intention of releasing a country record after fellow rock legend Steven Tyler released his solo country album in 2016.
“Not me, thank you. Personally, I think you should stick to what you know best. If Steven’s having a good time with it, who am I to complain? But it would be absurd for me to do that. I don’t mind country, but the ‘Prince of Darkness’ with a cowboy hat? I’m a rock & roller, not a f****** country bumpkin.”
While Ozzy was never going to put a twang on his voice, some country singers have taken his song and incorporated their country flair. Leading me to this incredible performance that Ian Munsick laid down over the weekend. Munsick is known for covering unlikely pop tunes at his shows, such as Britney Spears’ “Toxic” or Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.” After the passing of Ozzy, Ian Munsick decided to use the slot in his setlist for a pop cover to honor the rock and roll legend.
Over the weekend in Nebraska, Munsick put a country twist on his 1991 hit “No More Tears.”
“I grew up listening to him, and I’m sure a lot of you guys did, too. We are going to pay tribute to one of the absolute rock legends of the universe, Mr. Ozzy Osbourne.”
Munsick says into the crowd before beginning to pick his bass guitar.
I’m not going to lie, I was a little skeptical when I heard the intro, unsure of how I would like this country take on “No More Tears,” but as Ian Munsick often does with his untraditional covers, he proved everyone wrong and blew it out of the water.
Munsick’s band incorporated the fiddle into the early intro of the song, and when Munsick’s twangy vocals echo through the speakers, it instantly captivates the audience. As the song progresses, the guitarist maintains the iconic licks of the original, lending the rest of the tune to honor the original recording while adding a western twang at the start.
Ian Munsick is similar to Sierra Ferrell; they can both cover a wide variety of genres and make them fit their sound. Check it out, it rips.
