GUNSHIP’s New “World-First” Vinyl Is Housed In an Illuminated Art Piece

GUNSHIP found a way to make their album stand out in record collections amongst a sea of cardboard.

The influential synthwave group recently dropped Tech Noir Timelines, a new EP celebrating one of their most prized releases, which features legendary filmmaker John Carpenter, among others. To accompany the release, the band announced a special edition vinyl release.

Rather than displaying the album art on a paper sleeve, GUNSHIP’s new record comes housed in an illuminated, animated display case, which the band says is the first of its kind.

“We wanted to create something unique to support the hand-made nature of our claymation Tech Noir sequel video,” GUNSHIP said in a press release. “This thing is tasty, it took us roughly one year to put it together… a crash course in electronic product design and more nitpicking than you can shake a stick at.”

The case can be charged via USB so fans can display the piece of art long-term. Inside is a transparent 12″ vinyl featuring the original “Tech Noir” and “Tech Noir 2” on one side, and the remixes from Carpenter Brut and SIERRA VEINS on the other.

Adorned with LEDS, the all-black case is arranged in a way that resembles an old-school computer or arcade machine display. The lights have two settings: one that features a complete illumination and another that alternates the lights between the words like a sign placed in a storefront.Check out the illuminated vinyl in action below.
