Former Manchester United star Anderson ordered to serve prison time

Former Manchester United midfielder Anderson has been ordered to serve prison time if he doesn’t hand over £142,000 in child maintenance. A Brazilian court has ruled that the 37-year-old can be held behind bars for 30 days if he doesn’t cough up the required fee. The former midfielder was reportedly told about this at the start of September, but it has only just emerged. Reports in Brazil suggest that Anderson will be confined to his cell and will be closely supervised. He won’t have to do that should he make a late payment. But if he doesn’t, he will only be allowed out of his cell during the day to take part in community service before spending the evenings behind bars. The decision comes with Anderson owing £142,000 worth of child maintenance payments. The ex-Brazil international is yet to comment about it directly, but his lawyer has confirmed the case involves minors, with Anderson revealing in 2024 that he has nine children. He is also being investigated for money laundering around £4.7million through cryptocurrencies.
