Zach Top has been making waves with his neotraditional sound, but lately, he’s been giving fans something a little different.
This week, he opened at the West Virginia State Fair, and while the crowd was rowdy for the full show, it was his warm-up that really got people talking. Before taking the stage, Zach was caught on camera covering “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde” by Travis Tritt, and fans were eating it up.
Written by Walt Aldridge and James LeBlanc, it was recorded by Travis Tritt for his Down The Road I Go record, and released as a single in 2002. Peaking at #8, it was the final top 10 of his career… well, so far.

The comments section went wild:
“Okay, now that he’s teased us with this he better record it.”
“He will turn any song into his with that amazing voice.”
Some even took it a step further and called for a full-blown Zach Top covers album:
“I want him to do an album of cover songs cause you know it’d be out of this world.”
Honestly… not a bad idea. And if Zach is reading this, here are a few picks we think would sound incredible in his hands:
1. “Desperado”- Eagles
Sure, it’s not a country song on paper, but with Zach’s style, this could easily become a front-porch-with-a-beer anthem.
2. “Keep The Wolves Away” – Uncle Lucius
A steady, outlaw track that could be transformed with Zach’s tone and pacing.
3. “Outlaw Women” – Hank Williams Jr.
This one would be a tall order for most singers, but Zach’s tone has the swagger needed to pull it off.
4. “Simple Man” – Lynyrd Skynyrd
Keep the guitar heavy, let Zach’s vocals shine: that’s a recipe for something special.
5. “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” – Reba McEntire
No one’s topping Reba, but Zach could give this Southern gothic classic a fresh, moody spin
Whether Zach releases an album of covers or not, if he’s singing originals or reimagining classics, Zach Top has proven he can put his stamp on just about anything. The post Fans Are Calling for A Zach Top Covers Album After Hearing His Take On “Modern Day Bonnie & Clyde,” & I Got A Few Ideas first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
