Deion Sanders Was Stunned By The Smell Of The Stadium During Colorado Football Games: “I Never Been High A Day In My Life”

“Prime Time” wasn’t prepared for Boulder, Colorado to be a prime weed-smoking location.

Deion Sanders has a knack for going to a football team and instantly making them more competitive. Whether it was his playing days in NFL and MLB, his time at the HBCU Jackson State, or his current coaching gig with the Colorado Buffaloes, he’s always taken pride in taking an organization to new heights. And that’s even as his personal health has been under a microscope in the past couple of months.

There were even rumors swirling that he’d step down as head coach at Colorado, but those turned out to be untrue… thankfully.

Soon, Coach Prime and his Buffaloes team will be back out on the field and competing to win football games. Believe it or not, Deion Sanders is embarking on his third season as the Colorado head coach (time flies, eh?). He’s looking to follow up a respectable 9-4 season, in which his squad went 7-2 in their first year in the Big 12 Conference.

This upcoming season also marks the first year without his two star players that had been mainstays ever since Deion Sanders took the coaching job at Colorado: WR/CB Travis Hunter and QB (and son of Deion) Shedeur Sanders. Both have moved on to the NFL, and now, Coach Prime will have to show the college football world what he can do without him.

Hopefully Sanders will be able to surprise some doubters and roll out another successful season with the Buffaloes. Speaking of surprises and rolling (horrible, forced transition… I know), there’s one thing that Deion Sanders still can’t used to as he enters into his third season with Colorado. Is it the higher elevation? Nope. Bad traffic in and around the growing city of Boulder? Could be, but not the answer we’re looking for.

It’s the weed.

Colorado has long been a trendsetter for other states and advocate for marijuana use. All the way back in 2012, Amendment 64 made the recreational use of cannabis legal, and anyone over the age of 21 is allowed to purchase and partake. Medical cannabis has been legal in Colorado since 2000.

And according to Deion Sanders, it’s a very popular game time activity for those that are in attendance at Folsom Field. Coach Prime was recently asked if they was anything about the Buffaloes home stadium that surprised him, and he didn’t have to think too long before he shouted out all the weed smokers in the stands… that apparently all light up at the same time, every game:

“Yeah, the smell of weed in the second quarter. It surprised the heck out of me. Every game I’m like, ‘Dang.’ It seems like it’s a light-up quarter, you know what I’m saying? (I ask), ‘Is this the quarter that y’all chose?’ I’m serious, it’s a TV timeout and it never fails, and I’m like, ‘Wow. What’s going on?’ I never been high a day in my life, that’s kind of new to me.”
