Chris Young almost got snowed out during a stop along his It Must Be Christmas Acoustic Tour.
The country music artist had only gotten a couple of weeks into his Christmas tour when he ran into a bit of a weather problem in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin (yes, the name of the city includes the state’s name). Young was set to play at the Crystal Grand Music Theatre – and stilled played there – when some harsh winter weather hit the area.
His concert was Saturday, November 29, which also just so happened to be the same day that the region’s first major snow storm hit. Three to six inches of snow and ice fell over southeast Wisconsin, and high winds and snowfall made it difficult for some fans to make it to the venue.
Prior to the day of the concert, Young’s team put out a statement that they were monitoring the weather for the night, and many online were hoping that the event would be rescheduled. Even when the snow and rough conditions came, Chris Young went on with the performance on November 29. Some people were able to make it, while others decided to stay home and not risk getting out in the wintry weather.
It was a tough call no matter how you looked at it. Some were willing to travel to the venue despite the bad weather, so Young didn’t want to let them down. On the flip side, there were fans that didn’t want to battle the elements due to safety concerns. That crowd wanted Young to reschedule… but you can’t really come back in January and do a Christmas show, right?
So Chris Young decided to take the highest road possible. He played for those that attended, and then kept all of the others who stayed home in mind with this decision:
“Thank you to the folks that braved the storm and made it out to the Wisconsin show. I waived my fee for this show so all tickets can be refunded. I have instructed the venue to refund tickets to the point of purchase, whether you were there or not. Your safety is of the utmost importance and is never taken for granted. Sending love to your families and I hope you have a safe and happy holiday.”
All tickets refunded? Even if you showed up? I’d say that’s a “Merry Christmas to all” if I’ve ever seen it.
Pretty classy move by Chris Young to forfeit his paycheck for the night to keep his fans happy. I’m guessing he heard and saw that a lot of ticket purchasers were unable to make it, and didn’t feel right about keeping their money. Then to go a step further, he basically paid out those who did make it to the Crystal Grand Music Theatre for their troubles.
This time of the year, weather can always be a factor. I’m sure Chris Young will keep that in mind as he continues his Christmas tour in areas that could be impacted by winter weather.
