In darkness, there is light.
Sometimes things can give you a good laugh during life’s darkest moments, and that is precisely what one man did when he requested a country music classic to be played at his funeral. Now, social media has captured some pretty great moments of comedic relief during times of mourning as families lay their loved ones to rest, but this video takes the cake.
Recently, a woman on TikTok, @megjadexx, has gone mega viral, gaining over 11 million views in less than two weeks since posting a clip from her brother’s funeral. On the video’s on-screen caption, Meg shared that her brother’s last wish was a dark joke revolving around the famed Johnny Cash song “Ring Of Fire.”
“POV- Your brother has the darkest humor, and his last request was for Johnny Cash’s ‘Ring Of Fire’ to be played just before he gets cremated.”
After the video took off, @megjadexx shared that she was not expecting the post to take off and shared a little more about her brother’s story:
“On a serious note, I didn’t expect so many people to love this video. My brother sadly passed away at the age of 26 from heart failure as a result of a horrible disease called Becker muscular dystrophy and cardiomyopathy.”
After learning that her brother passed at such a young age, this crazy yet humorous request makes a little more sense.
The video highlights a moment from her brother’s memorial service, right before his body was cremated. In the footage, the service is seemingly over, and the booming voice of the Man In Black plays over the speakers as the ceremony comes to a close. The audience is still in their chairs, and as “Ring Of Fire” plays, a curtain in front of his casket slowly closes.
Per the creator’s caption, it’s clear that her deceased brother is about to be cremated, to later spread his ashes where he requested, but I can’t help but wonder if those in the audience are aware of his song request. If not, you’d have to imagine that “Ring of Fire” was a crazy song choice to close out a memorial service with.
See for yourself.
