Billy Bob Thornton plays a pretty convincing oil tycoon, but there’s one part of his Landman character that even he admits is a tad unrealistic.

The first season of Taylor Sheridan’s Landman ended up being a massive hit for Paramount+. The cast, made up of talented actors and actresses like Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, and Demi Moore, shined in the inaugural run of the series, and season two is currently being filmed with an expected release date of late 2025 or early 2026 (more likely the latter).

Fans of the show can only hope that Landman‘s second season delivers as many memorable moments as the first. It seemed like every week, another clip from the show was going viral online. The one that arguably got the most attention was a scene that Thornton’s Tommy Norris shared with Michelle Randolph’s Ainsley – Norris’ daughter in the show.

The dialogue shared between the actor and actress was so shocking that the clip spread like wildfire online, garnering millions upon millions of views. In case you missed it, Thornton’s character Tommy Norris had a fairly graphic conversation with his 17-year-old daughter Ainsley, who didn’t hold back and happily shared that she loved “getting it on” with her boyfriend and revealed all the “creative ways” they avoid getting pregnant.

Most online labeled the scene as unrealistic and cringey, and to be frank, it certainly was both of those things:

Still just as gross all these months later.

Not only was it awkward to watch as a fan of a show, it was apparently just as weird for the actors and actresses to play out the scene in front of cameras. Michelle Randolph was asked by The Wrap how it felt to portray a young daughter talking in such graphic fashion to her on screen father in Billy Bob Thornton, and if it was weird process to go through.

Randolph confirmed that it was a challenging scene to shoot for a number of reasons:

“How could you not? I knew. You knew. I just thought to myself, ‘How am I going to say this with a straight face, looking into Billy’s eyes? I was Ainsley in that moment. I was not Michelle. And as Michelle, I will never be saying that to my father. Let’s be clear.”

That supports the “unrealistic” cries that many fans were sharing online.

And though we heard from Randolph about the scene shortly after it aired, we never necessarily got Billy Bob Thornton’s opinion on the graphic conversation within Landman. That is until the 69-year-old actor recently spoke at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, Texas about the show, and how he truly became a family with his costars.

It was during that spiel that Thornton addressed the aforementioned viral scene – and the many other scenes he shared with Randolph throughout the first season:

“I’ve been doing this for what, 79 years now. I can honestly say that this bunch did become a family and this is the best crew I’ve ever worked with. That dynamic is like real life… if my daughter said what (Ainsley) says to me, I would have a seizure.”

Yeah… I think all fathers out there would agree. I guess it’s nice to hear Billy Bob Thornton finally admit that? The post Billy Bob Thornton Says He’d “Have A Seizure” If His Daughter Spoke To Him Like Ainsley In ‘Landman’ Does first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
