Three decades into his career, Armin van Buuren still knows exactly how to turn someone else’s darkness into dancefloor light.
The storied trance producer has teamed up with surging singer-songwriter Malou for “Everything I Wanted,” reimagining Billie Eilish’s anguished alt-pop hit of the same name. The new single features in today’s release of the A State of Trance, Ibiza 2025 album, mixed by van Buuren himself.
He tackles the existential weight of Eilish’s aching vocals and channels them through his signature trance synths, providing a buoy in the darkness. It’s classic AvB territory, the kind of uplifting melancholy and emotional detachment that made tracks like “This Is What It Feels Like” dancefloor therapy sessions.
Malou’s interpretation adds a captivating layer to the lyricism. Eilish whispered her anxieties into the void, but Malou projects them across massive festivals where we forget about inner demons, at least for a little while. Her delivery walks that fine line between accessibility and depth, delivering festival-ready moments without sacrificing the track’s introspective core.
