The University of Michigan, and the entire town of Ann Arbor, have been struggling to contain the fallout from the shocking dismissal and arrest of now-former head coach Sherrone Moore last week.
Moore, who is married and has three kids, was fired for cause after allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a female staffer for the Wolverines football team:
“Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and UM maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
And he was arrested shortly after his firing after allegedly going to his mistress’ apartment and threatening to kill himself. Prosecutors laid out the allegations against him during a hearing last Friday:
“At some point soon thereafter [Moore] came to her apartment… barged his way into that apartment, immediately then proceeded to a kitchen drawer, grabbed several butter knives and a pair of kitchen scissors, and began to threaten his own life. ‘I’m going to kill myself, I’m going to make you watch, my blood is on your hands, you ruined my life,’ and a series of very, very threatening, intimidating, terrifying statements and behaviors.”
Moore was ultimately charged with felony home invasion in the third degree, misdemeanor stalking and misdemeanor breaking and entering.
The mistress hasn’t been officially identified, though it’s largely been reported to be his assistant Paige Shiver. Shortly after the news began to break, Shiver deactivated her social media accounts, and online sleuths found that she had received a 55% raise in 2025. The 911 call was also made from an address linked to Shiver.
While Shiver is still employed with the university, an Ann Arbor restaurant was forced to quickly rename menu items that had been named after the couple:
And apparently the Ann Arbor bus system has been forced to make some quick changes to signs inside their buses that really didn’t age well…
The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority, also known as TheRide, launched a campaign in 2024 that focused on rider behavior and reporting suspicious activity. Along with messages like “Ride like your grandma is watching” and “Ride like your mom is watching,” there was also a sign, which ended up on Reddit, for the Michigan football coach:
“Ride as if Coach Moore is watching.”
Probably not the message you want to be sending these days. (I have a friend who lives in Michigan that texted me and said “Something about “Ride as if Coach Moore is watching” is creepy even without the recent events.”)
Well the organization worked quickly to take down the signs, with TheRide spokesman Jeff Pfeifer confirming that the signs have been removed:
“In light of what occurred last week, we immediately alerted staff and asked them to remove the Coach Moore signs. Our team is working to ensure that any last ones are removed expeditiously.”
Would hate for somebody to see that sign and decide to take the bus to their ex-mistress’ house. The post Ann Arbor Buses Forced To Remove Unfortunate “Ride As If Coach Moore Is Watching” Signs After Michigan Coach’s Firing first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
