Zach Top Continues His Reign As Classic Country’s Torchbearer With Latest Single “South Of Sanity”

Zach Top just can’t miss right now.

Everything he touches seems to turn to gold, and as he quickly rises through the ranks of country music’s mainstream aristocracy, it’s clear that he is a breath of fresh air that so many country music fans have been waiting for since the bro country era took over. While the genre as a whole has recovered from that phase, many of the scene’s most popular names still don’t get much play on country music radio or recognition from the mainstream media. Zach Top, on the other hand, is becoming the industry’s poster artist. And he may just be the mainstream’s saving grace, too.

Heeding the call as the foremost torchbearer of the classic country sound, Top’s music fills a major gap in mainstream country music and scratches the itch that so many country music fans have for new music resembling the ’80s and ’90s sound. Doing so in a way that avoids the gimmicky nature of some of the music that came out of that era, Top continues to release heater after heater with no signs of slowing down. And his latest single is far from an exception.

The second single off of his forthcoming record Ain’t In It For My Health, “South of Sanity” is some of Top’s best work yet. A cautionary tale that details the difficult nature of maintaining relationships as a touring musician, the song’s narrator finds himself on the receiving end of a break up in the midst of a run of shows on the opposite side of the country from his love life. Finding himself spiraling mentally in the wake of it all, he grapples with the notion of whether such a lifestyle is worth it in the end. And in true Zach Top and country heartbreaker fashion, the smooth vocal delivery and pedal steel laden sound hit you right where it hurts.

Give Zach Top’s latest single “South of Sanity” a listen for yourself.

As previously mentioned, “South of Sanity” marks the second single off of Top’s forthcoming sophomore record, following the catchy, feel-good lead single “Good Times and Tan Lines” released earlier this summer.

Give that one a listen here as well:

While the official tracklist is yet to be released, Ain’t In It For My Health is set for release on August 29 and features 15 brand new tracks. One of the most highly anticipated albums of the year, or in recent memory for that matter, the excitement surrounding Top’s new music is palpable, and this next record is shaping up to be another stepping stone in his rapid rise to superstardom.

Zach Top has a good amount of shows scheduled for August and beyond, so get out there and catch him live to hear some of these tunes in person. One of the most impressive things about Top, is that despite how incredible the recordings are, he and his band sound even better live.
