Some not so great news for fans of the Yellowstone universe.

Yellowstone’s main storyline engrossed fans for years, so when it officially come to a close late last year, it only made sense that some characters would continue to live on within their own respective shows. That’s why it came as no surprise when it was announced that Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler would starring in their own Yellowstone spinoff.

Deadline originally reported that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser would be reprising their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in a modern day spinoff series that would also see some others from the Yellowstone cast dropping in from time to time. Finn Little has been confirmed to return to play his character Carter in the series, and he’ll be a regular alongside Reilly and Hauser’s Beth and Rip.

All signs were pointing towards Dutton Ranch (more on that name in a second) premiering in late 2025 between September and December. Every piece of information that Paramount released about the upcoming spinoff put it as a “Q4 release” in 2025. However, in Paramount’s latest earnings call for Q2, they clarified that the spinoff focusing on Beth and Rip would actually find itself premiering in 2026.

The company did not give an explanation as to why the show would be delayed, though one could assume that the overhanging Skydance and Paramount merger could have played a role in pushing the series back a couple of months.

It’s also a possibility that with Sheridan’s other two shows – Mayor of Kingstown (Season 4) and Landman (Season 2) – premiering in October and December, Paramount wanted to space their Sheridan projects out a bit. Those two shows were confirmed to still air in 2025 during the earnings call.

Another thing that was confirmed? The name of the Beth and Rip spinoff. Things had been a little confusing on that front as of late. It was initially announced that it would be called “Dutton Ranch,” but then Cole Hauser ripped all that up (pun intended) when he told Fox News that wouldn’t be the title:

“Well, first of all, it’s not ‘Dutton Ranch.’ That’s not the name of it.”

And I guess he was right in saying that, because Paramount said in their earnings call that the spinoff would be called “The Dutton Ranch.” Cole Hauser is evidently very precise with titles… and has a soft spot for the word “the.” The man behind Rip Wheeler did say in that same interview that fans can expect the same energy and effort that they have all come to know and love from him and Kelly in Yellowstone when the show does hit TV screens all across the world in 2026:

“We can expect the same that we’ve been doing for the last seven years. Kelly and I going and working our a** off trying to create something special.”

That “something special” will have to wait until next year, which isn’t all that bad. Like I mentioned earlier, there are some other Sheridan shows releasing in late 2025 that will help hold over Yellowstone fans champing at the bit to see Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler back in action. The post Yellowstone’s Beth Dutton & Rip Wheeler Spinoff, “The Dutton Ranch,” Reportedly Delayed Until 2026 first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
