‘We have to adapt’ – David Raya admits struggle with Premier League ball after Dominik Szoboszlai stunner

Szoboszlai’s long-range effort clipped the post on it’s way in despite the Gunners goalkeeper getting his fingertips to the ball. The Spaniard admitted it was an impressive effort from his opponent. Speaking to Sky Sports at full-time, Raya explained: “I haven’t seen it [the goal] back yet. “Disappointed not to save it like every goal you concede. I think it’s a hell of a strike. I remember the ball moving a lot and moving away from me. Hopefully, the next one I can save. “It’s a very good strike especially with the new balls and everything. We still have to adapt. It’s going away from me so it’s harder to gauge and save it.” Raya added that he is still getting used to this season’s new Premier League ball, although he said it is a problem for every goalkeeper. Puma have replaced Nike as the league’s ball provider for this season after 25 years with the manufacturer. The new Orbita Ultimate PL has been in use so far during the campaign, although some keepers were reportedly unhappy with the ball prior to the season starting. As for Raya, when asked about the new Puma ball, he said: “It’s different to the Nike ball so we have to adapt to it. We just have to adapt after playing with the Nike ball for many years. It’s the same for everybody. “We wanted to go forward to attack them, to keep them quiet in the first half. We showed a lot of character to keep Liverpool quiet. “You have to take the positives from it. It’s fine margins and a magical moment from them. “We haven’t been beaten from the top six clubs in many games. There are a lot of steps forward to take and learn in every single aspect. There’s always things you have to learn.” The strike was the first goal Raya has conceded this term after back-to-back clean sheets against Manchester United and Leeds respectively. Meanwhile, Szoboszlai revealed he had not practised his technique, but was aware of Raya’s positioning at free-kicks. The Reds star told Sky Sports: “This shot I didn’t practice in the past few weeks because we were shooting closer. “I had to take a risk and shoot a little bit harder because I knew Raya likes to jump behind the ball. It’s an unbelievable goalkeeper. If it goes a bit more inside he saves it.” With the win, Liverpool are now the only remaining side with a perfect record in the Premier League this season. Arne Slot’s side are two points clear of Chelsea at the top of the table after three matches. Arsenal sit in third going into the international break, three points adrift of the champions. ‘Incredible’ moment the difference – Arteta Mikel Arteta admitted the visitors were beaten by a ‘magic moment’ against Liverpool. During his post-match press conference, the Gunners boss was asked whether their game plan had been to frustrate their opponents. However, Arteta responded: “We didn’t do our game plan to frustrate them, we did it to win it. “I think we elevated the game and the dominance to a point that they have to raise it, they did, especially from the 60th to 78th minute when then you could see that there were no margins in the game. “When that happens the game is going to be decided in two ways. One with an individual error and two with a magic moment. Despite that, Arsenal did have more attempts on goal with 11 to the hosts’ nine.
