Revisiting a moment from last year’s tour.

Charley Crockett and Leon Bridges have been on the road together on and off as part of their The Cowboy & The Crooner tour. The duo’s blues and soulful foundations complement each other as Bridges highlights the silky smooth vocals as he delivers his tunes, and Crockett, who embodies the cowboy portion of the tour, highlights his twang on stage.

While the duo still has two dates on the calendar for the remainder of 2025 in Texas, some social media users are reliving the magic of the duo on stage from dates they had together last year. One user shared a clip of the two performing the country music classic “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind,” and it’s near perfection.

Penned by Sanger D. Shafer and his wife at the time, Darlene Shafer, the song was made famous by the King of country music, George Strait, who cut the song as a part of his 1984 record, Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind.

The single became a massive hit for Strait, skyrocketing to the number one position on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and is a staple in his catalog.

The narrator of the song is sipping a beer in Fort Worth, Texas, thinking about a former lover who resides in the nearby city of Dallas, Texas. As he lets his mind wander, thinking about this woman with a new lover, he begins to question if he and the time they shared in Fort Worth ever crosses her mind.

“You left me here, to be with him in DallasAnd I know it hurts you at the timeWell I wonder now, if it makes a differenceDoes Fort Worth ever cross your mind?”

Last year, Crockett and Bridges performed a cover of the tune while playing at Fort Worth’s Dickies Arena. The two artists switch off singing each verse, and their rendition of the tune highlights the roots of the song with a moan of a steel guitar.

However, the style in which Bridges and Crockett deliver the lyrics breathes new life into the classic tune, giving it more of a blues feel. With Bridges being a Fort Worth native, he has some country flair to his stylings, but his swagger showcases the lyrics in a whole new light.

I’m a big fan of these two on the road together and hope that they tour again soon so we can see more of this cover and other country classics. Check it out:
