We’ve got a feud brewing between teammates.

The NASCAR Cup Series is in Loudon, New Hampshire today for the Mobil 1 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the first race of the second round of the playoffs.

The driver of the #11 car for Joe Gibbs Racing, Denny Hamlin, is desperately chasing his first Cup Series championship, and came into the race leading the points and one of the clear favorites for the championship with five wins already this season.

His teammate Ty Gibbs, meanwhile, has had a pretty disappointing season. The grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs missed the playoffs and came into the race 19th in points as he still chases his first Cup Series win. But it won’t come today in New Hampshire.

Midway through the second stage, Hamlin and Gibbs found themselves in a heated battle for 11th place, and Hamlin clearly wasn’t happy with how hard Gibbs in the #54 car was racing him while he’s trying to compete for a championship:

“Does Ty know we’re going for a championship? What the f—?”

And as Ty continued to block him while Hamlin tried to move forward, his frustration with his teammate kept growing:

“This is some teammate bulls–t.”

Well Hamlin finally caught back up to the younger Gibbs, and when the #54 continued to enter the corner low and slide up in Denny’s lane, it appears that Denny finally had enough and gave Gibbs a tap on the back bumper, sending him spinning in the middle of the corner:

And Denny continued to steam over his teammate:

“What the f— is he doing? Are they afraid to talk to him? That’s what I feel like, they’re just scared of him.”

Hamlin’s crew chief Chris Gayle tried to keep his driver focused on the race, but as Gibbs sat on the track waiting for a tow truck it seemed that he already had revenge on his mind:

“Game on.”

Now, I’m sure that Coach Gibbs isn’t going to be happy with one of his drivers wrecking his teammate, especially when that teammate happens to be the owner’s grandson. But on the other hand, you’ve gotta think that the team isn’t going to let Ty Gibbs do anything to Hamlin that would hurt his chances of bringing the team another championship.

It seems like this probably isn’t the first time Hamlin has been frustrated with Gibbs, who hasn’t been able to find the success of his other teammates at Joe Gibbs Racing. He’s the only driver for JGR who didn’t make the playoffs this year, and he’s still searching for his first Cup Series win during his three full-time seasons, after winning the Xfinity Series championship in 2022.

I’m sure there’s some frustration on both sides, and Ty Gibbs is no doubt feeling the pressure of proving that he belongs at the team. But it’s definitely going to be an awkward team meeting on Monday. The post Ty Gibbs Was Furious With His Teammate Denny Hamlin After Being Wrecked At Loudon: “Game On” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
