Texas Tech Students Behind Viral “Rush The Jones” Tune Are Back With Another Song
Back with another ditty, and it’s a solid tune. At the start of the college football season, two Texas Tech students were left in handcuffs after deciding to rush the field. Back with another ditty, and it’s a solid tune.
At the start of the college football season, two Texas Tech students were left in handcuffs after deciding to rush the field. The Red Raiders were playing Oregon State, but the game was halted Saturday afternoon after a 45-minute weather delay at Jones AT&T Stadium. The video of the two men being charged on the field went viral on social media.
While you’d think that the students who rushed the field would take off in fame, you’d be wrong. The two arrested students’ roommates were the real stars of the show, going viral after the incident for penning an original tune about their friends getting hauled off to jail called “Rush The Jones.”
The men detailed the whole situation in a play-by-play talking style of lyrical delivery similar to the Johnny Cash classic, “A Boy Named Sue.”
The tune goes a little like this:
“Well, it was a rain delay on a Saturday
And Tech was playing Oregon State
And two ole boys thought they’d give it a run
Well, they jumped down from their stadium seats
And felt the turf beneath their feet
Flip flops moving at 100 miles an hour
Well, they got to that old double T
Looked up and saw security…”

“Rush The Jones” sits now with over 1 million views. So, the masterminds behind the song, Slade and Cade, decided to help their buddies out from the viral moment and updated fans that they were planning to put the tune on Spotify and would sell merchandise, with all the earnings going towards paying their bail and legal fees.
“So all the money that we make from the t-shirts and I don’t know maybe Spotify, I don’t know how royalties work, will go to paying bail and legal fees. So, working on getting our roommates right.”
After all the positive feedback online from their first song, Cade and Slade have teamed up again, announcing that they are working on a Rush The Jones album, and after hearing their latest tune, I’m here for it.
“We will try to post new originals for the Rush the Jones album every Friday!”
Of course, these two struck gold with their initial “Rush The Jones” song, but after hearing another original, it’s clear that these two country boys have country music in their blood. They can write a catchy little ditty.
Their latest tune details that slight bit of fame that they’ve gotten from their viral song, and they named this new one “Sorta Semi Kind Of Famous.” Just like “Rush The Jones,” the tune has a Johnny Cash-inspired cadence, as Cade delivers the song about their newfound fame in Lubbock, Texas.
“Well, I wake up and I still feel the same
It ain’t all that it’s cut out to be
Well, he goes to work, and I’ve still got to go to class
Well, I’d say that much hasn’t changed
But a whole lot of people know my name
And this song is about my brand new claim to fame
We’re sorta semi kind of famous in a small town
It don’t take too many of us to show you how we get down
We got a couple of buddies who went to jail
So we wrote a song to pay their bail, and now
They’re back again and raising hell in a small town…”
With that man “Wells” in a tune, they are following in the footsteps of the great Turnpike Troubadours.
“Sorta Semi Kind Of Famous” is a very catchy little tune, and although they are just messing around penning these tunes, I feel like if Cade and Slade were to put some more production value in these, they are well on their way to becoming Lubbock’s next emerging country act.
