Landman will return for a third season.
Is this really a surprise? Not even in the slightest. The second season of Landman premiered back on November 16 – almost exactly a year after the show’s first season (it aired on November 17, 2024). And the show boasting a cast of Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Sam Elliott, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, and Michelle Randolph – among others – once again had massive ratings.
Season 2’s premiere holds the title of the biggest season or series premiere ever for Paramount+. More than 9 million people viewed the first episode of the second season in the first fews days it was available on the streamer. That number was more than triple what the series premiere of Landman did in 2024… so let me let you in on a little secret.
Where there’s viewership, there’s money. Where there’s money, there’s more seasons (and potential spinoffs).
So Landman Season 3 is officially ordered and in the works, and we should have expected that with what showrunner Christian Wallace told The Hollywood Reporter back in November. He implied that Season 1 was really the set up, and Season 2 was barely skimming the surface. So that must mean that Season 3 is when things really get wild in the universe of Landman:
“We barely skimmed the surface in season one and, after season two, I feel like we’re still just skimming the surface. We got to know these characters in season one, and now we get to spend more time with them in season two. We get to raise the stakes. They are so fun to be around.
This world is so rich — West Texas, oil and gas, Fort Worth, the upstairs downstairs of this whole thing. It’s such fertile soil for storytelling. Our cast has added so much depth to the characters. They know them so well now that they make it easy to tell an entertaining story.”
And to add to that, Billy Bob Thornton, who signed on to do the series for four or five years in his contract, has said previously that he wants to play Tommy Norris as long as he’s able to. Could “as long as he’s able” coincide with that four-to-five year contract of his? Probably. But that just goes to show that the people working on the series are rather comfortable sticking around to tell the story for a while.
This Season 3 update is also a relief considering all the news of Taylor Sheridan leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal. That has inadvertently caused some concern for the show’s future. But there’s no need to fret about it now with the official confirmation. There was even unofficial confirmation about a third season not too long ago from none other than Sam Elliott.
The 81-year-old, mustachioed actor was speaking with ExtraTV about the second season of Landman when he revealed some rather exciting news about what was then an unannounced, unconfirmed third season. Elliott shared that he and the rest of the Landman crew were planning on filming the next batch of episodes in early 2026, according to this quote:
“I’m excited to see what unfolds in (Landman) Season 3. I mean, we’re talking about Season 2, but that’s backstory for us at this point. We’re all kind of looking toward to April and May when we start shooting Season 3.”
The other good news from that? If that shooting schedule that Elliott laid out is true, then that would mean that Landman Season 3 would be following along on the exact same timeline as Season 2. Taylor Sheridan has always been the type that likes to keep his shows on tight, every-year release schedules. Landman’s second season started shooting in April of 2025, and was ready to go for a Paramount+ premiere in November.
Fans should probably expect the same for Season 3.
And I’m gonna guess that even more seasons of Landman could come in the future. Christian Wallace – the co-creator and executive producer of Landman – clarified that the show could go on after Taylor Sheridan exits Paramount. The Yellowstone creator’s contract with Paramount expires at the end of 2028, so some were worried that’s as long as Landman (or any other Sheridan show on Paramount+) could go. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
