The same scenario is set to occur again this term, though, with Southampton and Leicester already down and Ipswich on course to join them. Meanwhile, Leeds and Burnley’s managers have both suffered the same fate in their previous top flight campaigns. Daniel Farke failed to keep Norwich up in the 2019/20 season before he was sacked before their relegation two years later. Similarly, Burnley boss Scott Parker took Fulham into the Premier League in 2020 but suffered relegation the following season. He repeated the trick with Bournemouth in 2022 but was sacked just four matches into their top flight return. Simon Jordan believes both managers suffered from a lack of financial backing during their previous Premier League exploits. Speaking on White & Jordan, he explained: “If you bring a side up from the Championship, with predominantly Championship players, you know that you’ve got to have an element of gold dust and some money being spent to support the manager. “So if you’re Norwich and you spend £9million when you get promoted, you don’t give your manager a chance.” talkSPORTJordan has called on the two promoted sides to back their managers this summer[/caption] Parker has achieved his third promotion from the Championship this seasonGetty Jordan added: “They spent £9m on the 2019/20 season, so they got relegated. They got relegated in the season when it took 35 points to stay up, and now takes 26 in the last couple of seasons. “The next time they go up, they spent £45m and finish bottom of the league in a season that takes 38 points to stay up. “You take Scott Parker up with Fulham, he gets £30m. What are you going to do with £30m in the Premier League when you’ve got people that are spending hundreds of millions of pounds that have got established Premier League squads?” Asked what would represent a figure needed to give both club’s the best chance of survival, the former Crystal Palace chairman said: “You need to balance the books. “I would think that a reasonable amount of money to be spending when you get promoted to the Premier League is somewhere in the region on transfer fees of 50 to 60 per cent of the total amount of money you’re going to get for being in the Premier League, which is around about £120m. “So if you spend £50-60m, you give yourself half a chance of staying in the division. That doesn’t always work out. Farke was relegated with Norwich in 2020 after spending just £9million on transfersGetty “But we’re isolating it and saying, well, look at these two guys. They’ve been there before. What’s to suggest they’re not going to be here again? And they might not be.” Burnley have been relegated in each of their last two Premier League campaigns in 2021/22 and 2023/24. Meanwhile, Leeds spent three years in the top flight following their most recent promotion in 2020. The last time a promoted side avoided the drop was during the 2022/23 season. That campaign saw all three of Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest retain their Premier League status, with the trio all now sitting in the top half of the table.
