Simon Jordan dismantles Man United as he calls out Ruben Amorim and rejects Gareth Southgate

Simon Jordan has launched a scathing rant towards Manchester United and Ruben Amorim amid their ongoing struggles.

Man United continue to fail under manager Amorim, losing their 17th Premier League game of his tenure last weekend.

Their 3-1 defeat to Brentford saw them slip down to 14th in the top-flight table and miss out on back-to-back wins again.

The Red Devils have never won two consecutive games under their Portuguese boss since his appointment last November.

United’s nightmare start to this season follows their lowest-ever Premier League finish last term – and the pressure seems to be ever-growing on Amorim.

There have been calls for him to be sacked six games into this campaign, whilst a shortlist of replacements has been drawn up.

And former Crystal Palace owner Jordan has ripped into the manager for his spell at the club and his stubbornness over his system

Although the talkSPORT host quickly began with a dig at Man United skipper Bruno Fernandes for his performances…

He said on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan: “You want your captain to step up to penalties and score them every now and again.

“Rather than going on this drought of penalties where he misses them, that doesn’t help the cause…

“United are a long way away from the finished article, no one can work out why Ruben Amorim seems to be given special dispensation that no other manager in football seems to be given.

“And that is: Come in and make it worse, and keep on making it worse and spend lots of our money whilst making it worse and then tell everyone why you’re making it worse and ultimately you’re not going to pivot from that and the crowd cheer you.

“That is a wonderful formula – every manager in the world will want to enlighten on that alchemy because that means just turn up and get paid for doing nothing.”

Jordan continued to dismantle Amorim’s approach of setting up his team in the same formation and then struggling in every game.

“It’s an old saying isn’t it: BS baffles brains…but I don’t think he’s even doing that,” he added.

“You look at it and think have the Man United fans been beaten down to such a worn-down nub that they’re going to accept a first-half performance of a good game every other week.

“Because really and truly, this is not an ocean liner, it might be a difficult football club to run, but notwithstanding that, it’s not an ocean line, it can turn.

“10 months, 11 months into it, you have to look at the reality – you have to be sensible and pragmatic, we all have our beliefs in life and we all have our principles – but you’ve got to win football matches.

“If you can’t win football matches in a certain way, you win football matches in another way until you can play the way you want to play.

“I suppose the only argument against that is what Pep Guardiola did in 2016, coming in and saying: ‘I’m going to play I want to play and I’m going to keep on playing that way to achieve something.'”

Will Amorim leave Man United?

talkSPORT understands that any decision on Amorim’s future will likely be taken after November 1.

Waiting until that date would see the amount of compensation needed to be paid to the boss decrease.

And Jordan then took aim at Man United for that approach.

“I’m sure that’s going to be their biggest concern, they’re spending money like drunken sailors anyway,” he stated.

“Apparently, this time last year, they didn’t have any money, which was absolute nonsense because we all know they did.

“That should have been brought up by the stock exchange when they made that sort of announcement.

“You look at it and say, despite all of this, Bryan Mbuemo still wanted to go to Man United, they’ve still got the draw and the pull.

“They’ve got to get themselves together, the manager has got to get himself together.”

Some unconfirmed reports have also suggested that Amorim had already asked to resign and Jordan admitted that he’s destined to fail should that be a true story.

He continued: “Whether there’s truth in anything that you hear, that he tendered his resignation, which is not good, if that is true, if there’s any scintilla of indication that that is true, then you’ve got your die cast, he’s going to fail.”

Southgate to replace Amorim?

Amid the major doubts about Amorim’s future at Man United, talkSPORT understands that former England boss Gareth Southgate is an option to replace him.

United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been in direct contact with Southgate in recent weeks.

However, despite seeing the appointment happening, Jordan isn’t sure that it will be the right fit for the Red Devils.

He joked: “Can I justify it [appointing Southgate]? Quite frankly, I can justify Elmer Fudd being rolled in there right now.

“Do I think Gareth Southgate takes you where you want to go? No I don’t. That’s not because I don’t like him, it’s not because I don’t think he did a reasonably decent job at England.

“I just don’t think that Southgate fills the gap any more than Ruben Amorim fills the gap. The question is: Who does?”

Jordan then discussed Ratcliffe further, doubting his ability to run a football club despite his thriving business acumen.

“So, we’ve heard this indexing before, we’ve heard that Jim Ratcliffe has had a particular fancy for Southgate,” he said.

“Well, besides the fact he’s a brilliant businessman – there’s no doubt about that on any level – I’m not so sure he’s a brilliant football operator right now.

“He is planning to go in a direction, hoping that the people they’re buying, the people they’re introducing to the football club and the manager can take them where they think they should be, which is back amongst the elite.

“Because eventually, this idea that Man United can keep trading on the currency of generation after generation will be eclipsed by other teams like Man City.

“The next generation of fans will forget the Busby Babes, will forget George Best, will forget the holy trinity, and they’ll be focusing on the team now that is Man City.”

Would Jordan sack Amorim?

Following his rant at the state of Man United, Jordan’s co-host Jim White finished with a direct question.

White asked: “Would you sack Ruben Amorim?”

Jordan replied: “I’d have to be closer to the person to understand what the hell is going on in this man’s mind.

“What makes him say things to the media like ‘I think this is the worst thing I’ve seen’ and then tell people that he was too young to have said it in the first place.

“You’re 41 years of age, you’re not a kid, you’re managing the biggest team in the world, don’t say that sort of crap in front of the media.”
