Man, what a fucking roller coaster of a week. It has to be the absolute worst time to be a Mets fan right now, what with closer Edwin Diaz and star slugger Pete Alonso off to new teams and the front office seemingly having zero fucking idea what it’s doing. But then again I got married on Wednesday, so it wasn’t all bad, so that’s something at least! And hey — there’s new music to check out, so let’s do that.

Fucked Up
Year of the Goat (Tankcrimes)
For a long time now, Toronto-based Fucked Up have been putting out records based on the Chinese Zodiac calendar. This time around, they’re at the Year Of The Goat and it’s the first of three final albums to be released in the series. It’s got two songs, each a half hour long, and it relies on some well-established lore, but this is worth checking out if you like hearing music that goes places and was born of a singular, interesting idea.

Glasgow Kiss
Down In Flames (Eclipse Records)
This debut album is described by Eclipse Records as a “burst of sweet dichotomy, altered reflections, foils, doppelgangers, and visions of the self through enchanting and fractured perspectives.” It’s got a beefy rock sound that’s rounded out by the damn good vocal stylings of Charlotte Marlen Midtun.

HEALTH
CONFLICT DLC (Loma Vista Recordings)
Technically, this came out yesterday but I’m willing to break the rules. Considered a continuation of their previous album Rat Wars, this was supposed to be part two of a double record. Thankfully, they decided against doing one of those, because it gave us time to digest Rat Wars and now we can appreciate this piece of DLC for what it is — a sort of more aggro Rat Wars.

Lord Of The Lost
Opvs Noir Vol. 2 (Napalm Records)
Blending some other metal genres into their sound, Lord Of The Lost return for the continuation of what they started with Opvs Noir Vol. 1 released earlier this year. All you have to do is ask yourself if you enjoy a dose of melancholy in your German gothic metal. If you do, then this jam is for you.

Rotting Christ
35 Years of Evil Existence – Live in Lycabettus (Blu-Ray) (Season of Mist)
Once again breaking the rules a bit, Rotting Christ already released the audio-only version of 35 Years Of Evil Existence – Live in Lycabettus, but this is the Blu-Ray edition. That makes it incredibly different from that previous release, as you can now watch Rotting Christ play these songs in 4k and in technicolor on the big screen.
Other Shit That Comes Out Today:
Abysmal Grief, Taetra Philosophia (Avantgarde Music)
Dark Sky Burial, The Sacred Neurotic (Consouling Sounds)
Dawn Of A Dark Age, Ver Sacrum (My Kingdom Music)
Kaosophia, Funeral Of The Gods (Serpent Sun Records)
Lust Of Decay, Entombed In Sewage (Comatose Music)
Nattradio, The Longest Night (Darkness Shall Rise Productions)
Pincer+, Who Are You When No One’s Around (Greyscale Records/1126 Records)
