This weekend here in the States, we’re celebrating Labor Day and I think it’s important to remind some of you guys why we have all this extra time off. Without conscious labor efforts all those years ago, we wouldn’t have days off on the weekend, the concept of a 40 hour work week would be a luxury and not the default benchmark, and kids would still be forced to slave away in dangerous conditions. These days, it feels like all those wins that labor got all those years ago are under threat of being reversed. So while we still have these rights, let’s enjoy them and maybe let your representatives know that you support labor rights here in the U.S. Otherwise, it’s back to the coal mines for all of us.

Burghâsh

La tríada dels idiotes (Wormholedeath)

You may recognize this black metal band hailing from the Catalonia region of Spain by a different name: Burgûli. If that name rings a bell, then you’re already well aware of the misanthropic and blasphemous attack this group is capable of. Sporting three new tracks in this EP, expect epic compositions that overflows with fury and bile.

Headless

Transitional Objects (M-Theory Audio)

These guys are an Italian progressive metal/hard rock outfit that’s been around since 1993 (albeit with an 11 year hiatus from 2000 to 2011). Everyone in this band has played with some heavy hitters, including Yngwie Malmsteen, Geoff Tate, and Elegy, and boy can you tell in this album’s eight tracks.

Helloween

Giants & Monsters (Reigning Phoenix Music)

For more than 40 years, this German power metal juggernaut has remained steadfast, releasing their 19th full-length effort. I don’t think I need to really elaborate too much here. When a band’s been around as long as Helloween has, you pretty much know what you’re getting into.

Månegarm

Edsvuren (Napalm Records)

If you’re planning a raiding party and need your viking soundtrack, this is your shit right here. This band of Swedes have been putting out epic viking metal since 1995. With lyrics sung almost exclusively in Swedish, you may not understand what’s being said, but you’ll know it’s epic by the sound of the music.

Vicious Rumors

The Devil’s Asylum (SPV/Steamhammer)

Since 1979, this band has been pretty consistently churning out old school power metal. Old heads will definitely get a reason to get behind this, while newcomers to the genre will find The Devil’s Asylum a great entry point to everything the power metal subgenre’s got to offer.
