Billy Ray Cyrus? You mean the artist that was the voice of the theme song for Scooby-Doo?
Obviously, ’90s country star Billy Ray Cyrus had plenty of hits in his heyday. “Achy Breaky Heart” and “Some Gave All” made the country artist a household name, and though he fizzled out a bit musically when he got into the 2000’s (Hannah Montana fans would like a word), he’s still managed to stay relevant in the modern day.
You know, through disastrous performances, having his son berate him online, and surprisingly dating Elizabeth Hurley. I know the first two things were pot shots, but the Hurley thing… props to you Mr. Cyrus.
Though Cyrus seems to be doing a-okay in 2025, I want to take the conversation back to the beautiful decade of the 1990s. The country music was better. The safety regulations were looser. And the cartoons? Don’t even get me started. Modern day cartoons can’t even hold a candle to what was being drawn up in the 1990s.
One of the more popular animated shows during that era was Scooby Doo. The original Scooby-Doo: Where Are You? program aired from 1969 to 1978, and the spinoffs (and re-runs) of that show were abundant. And around the turn of the century, cartoon Scooby-Doo movies were being produced at breakneck pace. Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost released in 1999, and though fans have likely watched that particular film a dozen times, they are just now finding out some 20-plus years later that Billy Ray Cyrus was the voice behind that movie’s theme song.
“Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?” is a song which was written by David Mook and Ben Raleigh, and was originally sang by Larry Marks. But in 1999, Billy Ray Cyrus was asked to come into the studio and cover the track for Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost, and that he did.
Cyrus countrified the theme song a bit, and the rendition was widely accepted by fans of the beloved cartoon. In fact, many probably didn’t even notice that the original was swapped out for Billy Ray Cyrus’ version. The country artist did a great job honoring the timeless classic while also making it a bit of his own.

Though it’s no mystery as to who sang – and is credited with – Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? for the 1999 film, fans of the show are legitimately just now finding out that Billy Ray was the voice behind the song. Heck, you might even be finding out this information for the first time, and you are likely reacting like some of these social media users:
“I had no idea he sang this. My mind is literally blown right now. How did I never notice this?”
“Um…what the hell? I have watched every single Scooby-Doo show up until it turned to hell and had no idea Billy Ray Cyrus sung a theme song.”
“Wait whatttttt? He sang this?”
“What the f***? I should have known.”
“I was today years old when I found out Billy Ray Cyrus sang this.”
Hey… Billy Ray Cyrus didn’t just sing the theme song. He gave it his all. Let’s give the ’90s country star some credit.
