Nottingham Forest already listed as Europa League side by UEFA ahead of Crystal Palace fan protest

UEFA have updated their team lists for next season’s continental competitions following Crystal Palace’s demotion. The Eagles were removed after it was deemed they had breached multi-club ownership rules. Their breach related to former shareholder John Textor, who also owns French side Lyon. As Lyon had qualified for the Europa League through their sixth place finish in Ligue 1 last term, they were allowed to remain in the competition. Meanwhile, Palace were forced to drop into the Conference League, which they will enter at the play-off round. The club are set to appeal the decision, which chairman Steve Parish labelled an ‘incredible travesty of justice’ last week. He told Sky Sports on Friday: “It’s such an incredible travesty of justice and something I think every football fan should be worried about, when teams of the same name have played in these competitions. “Either you have these multi-clubs or you ban them, they need to find a way through this. But not withstanding that, we were never part of one. “Everybody knows my position on them, I don’t think that they’re generally the right thing to do, other people disagree with me, that’s fine, but we have nothing to do with them.” In the mean time, Forest are now listed alongside Villa on UEFA’s website as the two English entrants in the Europa League.
