Nothing Says Christmastime Like Tony Hawk Inexplicably Skateboarding During ‘The Nutcracker’ Ballet

Tony Hawk is apparently just doing side quests now.

There’s a select few individuals through history that are considered synonymous with their sport. One of those names is Tony Hawk. Even though he’s 57 years old, he’s still the sport’s biggest star. And despite not skating all that much anymore, he’s still a celebrity that can make headlines doing even the smallest of things.

Like making a cameo in The Nutcracker ballet.

On Saturday, December 20, Tony Hawk was at the San Diego’s Civic Theatre played a role in the Golden State Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker. The pro skater was asked by his daughter, who was a part of the Golden State Ballet, to participate… and he said, “Why not?”

And it wasn’t like he was singing or dancing in the program. They just asked Tony Hawk to do what he does best: SHRED. The ballet program just put up a quarter pipe skate ramp on the stage, and the pro skater (from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater) just rode his board across the stage, did a trick, and then exited stage right.

All of the sudden I’m a fan of ballet:

@goldenstateballet Ballet & Tony Hawk were 2 things we never thought would be in the same sentence but we arent mad about it. ???????????? #fyp #viral #ballet #nutcracker #tonyhawk @Tony Hawk ♬ Nutcracker Russian Dance (Trepak)(845254) – ogsogs

Yeah, that’s awesome. All ballets without Tony Hawk from here on out are boring. They really should have thought about the impact on the industry as a whole before they weaved skateboard tricks – and a skateboarding legend – into ballet.

Hawk took to Instagram to explain his decision to be a part of it, and thank all of those who helped make it happen:

“I was invited to do a ‘cameo’ in Golden State Ballet’s Nutcracker performance in San Diego. Sometimes you just have to say yes to things WAY outside your comfort zone, especially when your daughter thinks is funny. Thanks to Ramp Carnies for saving the day with this last-minute quarter pipe build, saving Katelyn West and I from the worst freestyle demo ever.”

Simply put, The Nutcracker will never be the same. Tony Hawk continues to change the game, even when the game is outside of his comfort zone.

Here’s another look at Tony Hawk’s performance, just in case you can’t get enough of it (like me). Nothing says “Merry Christmas!” like Tony Hawk working his skating skills into The Nutcracker, am I right?
