Nashville, Tennessee is irrefutably the bachelorette capital of the world.

Like it or not, the streets of downtown Nashville – specifically Broadway – are flooded with thousands upon thousands of bachelorette parties every single year. Think I’m making that statistic up? Well I’m not. Just a few years ago, it was confirmed that over 30,000 bachelorette parties took place in Music City.

That’s a whole lot of pink cowboy hats and cowboy boots walking (or riding on party buses) up and down Broadway when you do the math.

And when you think about it, that’s probably a lot of food, snacks and drinks that go waste. Bachelorette parties likely buy up a bunch of snacks and drinks to keep at their rental house, only to then go out and spend most of their money on expensive drinks and over-priced food.

That’s where the Bach Bank comes in. Founder Kaitlin Zurdosky recognized that a lot of good food was going to waste when bachelorette parties packed up and headed out after their weekend in Nashville. As she told WKRN, the non-profit organization saw that problem and thought it would offer up a solution:

“It’s kind of an epidemic. You go on a party, you have all this food, and then what do you do with it at the end? You throw it away. We’re the solution to come and donate it locally, to keep the waste out of landfills, and feed the people who need it.”

So the Bach Bank is basically a food rescue initiative that hones in on bachelorette parties (it’s not exclusive to them, but that’s most of the customer base), taking their unopened food and beverages and getting them to community pantries and shelters… rather than the bottom of the dumpster.

The non-profit’s website explains its purpose as the following:

“Bach Bank is a nonprofit food rescue project based in Nashville, TN. We collect unopened food and drinks from bachelorette parties and deliver them to local food banks, shelters, and community fridges. The idea started after witnessing how much perfectly good food gets left behind at the end of a weekend celebration – snacks, drinks, groceries, all headed for the trash. We knew there had to be a better way.

Now, Bach Bank is growing into a national movement to fight food waste, feed people, and bring more purpose to the party. We’re rapidly expanding to serve more cities, working with volunteers and local partners to make an impact wherever the party ends. We believe generosity can start anywhere – even in the fridge on a Sunday morning.”

I’ve got to admit… that’s a great and very helpful idea.

Obviously since it’s a non-profit, the service that Bach Bank provides is free, and works solely because of generous volunteers. Groups of any kind can schedule drop offs or pick ups for their leftover food and beverages, and the good people over at Bach Bank do the rest. They even repurpose unopened alcohol for fundraisers that benefit Bach Bank.

As of right now, Bach Bank is just focused in the Nashville area. But soon enough, the idea could grow and move into other cities and communities where wasteful leftovers are waiting to be turned into beneficial donations for those that are in need. It’s honestly a great idea… and I guess the one silver lining to having all of the bachelorette parties descend upon Music City. The post Nashville Non-Profit Finally Figures Out How To Make The Best Out Of Bachelorette Parties Descending Upon Music City first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
