In a post-match interview with Sky Sports alongside Van Dijk, Salah was asked about his new deal. Salah responded: “I’m glad that we managed to do it before the season ends and hopefully Virgil will be next.” It was a comment that earned chuckles from journalist Patrick Davison and his teammate while Salah put his hand up and said ‘hopefully’. “Look, he can do whatever he wants but I would love to see him again next year,” Salah continued.   Van Dijk saw the funny side at Salah’s comment about his contract negotiations Salah followed up his comment with a disclaimer that he wasn’t announcing anything Davison then angled towards Van Dijk searching for an update. “I can tell you I’m very proud to captain my 100th game for Liverpool,” the defender responded.  “It was an emotional day because it was for our [Hillsborough] anniversary and that was the main focus. Get three points and get a step closer to all of our dreams.” Fans were worried as pictures circulated of Van Dijk talking to PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Luis Campos following Liverpool’s round of 16 Champions League loss last month. But after Sunday’s match he reaffirmed his passion for the Merseyside club as he said: “Everyone knows how much I love this club and let’s see what next week will look like.”  Salah and Van Dijk have arguably been Liverpool’s most important players in recent years. They secured the club’s sixth Champions League in the 2018/19 season, raised the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup before achieving the holy grail of Liverpool’s first ever Premier League title the following campaign.
