There’s something about a small-town Walmart that hits differently. The employees are friendly, the place is always well-stocked and well-kept, and I always have such a pleasant shopping experience when visiting locations like this.
However, one Walmart location is going above and beyond to make its customers feel at home. In a viral TikTok video, Walmart has allowed its employees to be the voice behind the “press for associate” buttons. While the specific location of this Walmart is not known, when a customer presses the help button, she is greeted by the most comforting voice of an older gentleman with a southern accent.
“Sumbuddy from Walmart’s gon’ be right witchya.”
The voice says in a thick twang.
The creator captioned the video, noting that she couldn’t believe this was a real response from the button, but also felt that this was “the most American thing she’s ever heard.” Amen to that. And if you
The creator of the video questioned whether this was a recording distributed to all Walmart stores, since you wouldn’t expect to hear that kind of twang in Michigan where she lives, but the comments quickly cleared that speculation up, with users saying that their neighborhood Walmart had AI-sounding recordings. Then, a Walmart employee stepped in, noting that these recordings are specific to locations as the team members record them.
“I work at Walmart, and I can confirm that employees from the store you’re in record those for you. You’re welcome.”
What I’m hearing is that the employees at this Walmart location are going above and beyond their duties. Respect.

In the 48 hours since the video was posted, and at the time of writing, it has garnered over 17 million views and 3 million likes. I know I contributed quite a few views to that count. As I previously mentioned, I find great comfort in this man’s voice, and I was not the only one, as many comments on the video shared the same sentiment.
“That’s Walmart himself.”
“That’s someone’s pawpaw.”
“It’s Walmart’s version of Alexa…it’s called Cletus.”
“Honestly, this comforts me.”
“An associate will be with you shortly. Somebody from Walmart’s gone be right witcha.”
“Honestly, I’d feel better after hearing this.”
“He ain’t that somebody, he’s just lettin’ you know.”
“That’s someone’s Paw Paw that already retired after working for 45 years, but decided he was too bored and got another job at Walmart.”
“This is way more fun and human than a cold robot voice.”
“There’s something comforting about hearing that voice and not the robot lady.”
“I think Mater got a second job.”
“That’s southern comfort right there.”
“I want that in my next Build-A-Bear.”
In a world where technology is taking over, seeing things like this makes me smile and feel like there are pockets of our nation that have not yet become too modern. I want to know this exact Walmart store’s number so I can visit and hear this for myself.
Can we start a petition for Walmart to have the recording in stores nationwide? The post Michigan Walmart Goes Mega-Viral With “Press For Associate” Button That Features A Heartwarming Southern Accent first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
