Teams from England’s top-flight spent more than clubs from LaLiga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 combined.

The top 20 teams helped shatter the £2.36bn that was forked out by Premier League sides two years ago, which had been the record.

And they could be set to receive some windfall despite the window closing at 7pm on Monday night for British clubs.

What transfer windows remain open?

A host of countries still have their transfer window open, with Dutch sides giving until 23:59pm on Tuesday night.

As for the Turkish window, that doesn’t shut until September 11, with the Greek window running until the following day, while the Portuguese window is open until September 15.

And the mega-rich Saudi Pro League doesn’t slam shut until September 23.

Darwin Nunez is so far the costliest arrival in the Gulf nation this summer having joined Al Hilal from Liverpool in a £46.2m deal plus add-ons.

Joao Felix was another high-profile signing made by Saudi chiefs with the Portugal international signing for Al Nassr from Chelsea in a £45m package deal.

Andre Onana – Manchester United

The Red Devils goalkeeper may be deemed as surplus to requirements following the £18m arrival of Senne Lammens.

The Cameroon international has been plagued by inconsistent displays since joining from Inter Milan in 2023.

He has lost his place as United’s No.1, and was at fault for both of Grimbsy’s goals in the League Two side’s shock Carabao Cup second round win over United.

Onana was linked with a switch to Turkish giants Galatasaray on deadline day as an alternative to Ederson, who joined their rivals Fenerbahce from Manchester City.

The 29-year-old could be part of Cameroon’s squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations, which runs from December 21 to January 18.

Altay Bayindir – Manchester United

Just like Onana, Bayindir is facing himself once again relegated to the bench following the signing of Lammens.

Bayindir has played as back-up to Onana since he joined from Fenerbahce two years ago.

He finally got his chance to deputise as the first choice shot-stopper this season, but has failed to inspire any confidence between the sticks.

The Turkey international was culpable for Riccardo Calafiori’s winner in the defeat to Arsenal on the opening day, before being guilty of another blunder in the 3-2 win over Burnley on Saturday.

And Bayindir could relish a move back to his homeland if the opportunity presented itself.

Tyrell Malacia

A third United player, the Dutch left-back is the last member of the club’s bomb squad that failed to secure a move away before the British window closed.

Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony all managed to depart.

But Malacia remains available for exit with the 26-year-old deemed as surplus to requirements by boss Ruben Amorim.

Injuries have limited the nine-cap Netherlands international to just 47 appearances across his three-year stay at United.

It had looked as if Malacia would join LaLiga side Elche on loan on deadline day, but that deal fell through.

He could now look to push through a move back to Holland with just hours remaining in the window.

Emi Martinez – Aston Villa

The ex-Arsenal goalkeeper saw a move to United fall through on Monday after they opted to sign Lammens instead.

And despite being adored by Villans fans since being sold by the Gunners in 2020 for £20m, the 2022 World Cup winner faces an uncertain future in the Midlands.

talkSPORT understands that Martinez could still get his move having looked to have played his last game for Villa after being left out of Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

Galatasaray are interested in the player, with the Argentine viewed as one alternative to Ederson.

Villa are expected to allow Martinez to leave if they receive a suitable offer to help with UEFA spending rules.

Raheem Sterling – Chelsea

The Blues winger saw potential a deadline day move to Fulham fail to come to fruition.

Sterling is not in Enzo Maresca’s plans, with the Italian boss allowing him to join Arsenal on loan last season.

And despite interest in him from Crystal Palace and West Ham in England and Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen from outside the Premier League, no club managed to snap him up.

It is believed that Sterling’s preference was to join another London side.

But he now faces a further four months without football before the window reopens, by which time teams may be looking for a player that has been playing and does not need to work on their match fitness.

This could see Sterling decide to make a move this month, with it remaining to be seen whether a Saudi club will look to persuade him to join.

Axel Disasi – Chelsea

Another member of the Chelsea bomb squad, Disasi was denied a move back to Monaco after the west London outfit ran out of international loan spots.

He can now only join a team outside of the UK in a permanent deal.

If he wishes to remain in the Premier League, he would have to wait until the New Year as there are no such loan limits within the top-flight.

Like Sterling, Disasi has been left out from each of Chelsea’s opening three matches of the season.

Disasi was also omitted from Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad in a clear indication that he is not in their plans.

He spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Aston Villa, but the Villans decided against signing him permanently.

Yves Bissouma – Tottenham Hotspur

The 29-year-old has less than 12 months of his deal left to run in north London.

He is yet to feature for Spurs this season under new boss Thomas Frank.

Frank omitted him from his UEFA Super Cup squad to face Paris Saint-Germain last month due to ill discipline having been late on numerous occasions.

talkSPORT reported last week how Galatasaray were keen on the midfielder, but so far, a deal is yet to materialise.

And with the player unlikely to pen fresh terms to extend his stay, Spurs may look to get him off their books this month with Bissouma able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a team outside of the UK in January.

Bissouma himself knows he will need to be playing regularly should he wish to be in peak physical condition for Mali at AFCON.

It remains to be seen whether Bissouma will be departing before the winter transfer window opens
