Man City’s bid to sign Newcastle star hits stumbling block in major Pep Guardiola transfer blow

The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 season to help the Magpies lift the Carabao Cup and secure their Champions League return. Newcastle star Livramento is considered to be one of the top full-backs in the Premier LeagueGetty Livramento featured in 45 games in all competitions, where he operated on both sides of the defence. His impressive form led to the ex-Chelsea academy star making his England senior debut in November. And with Pep Guardiola keen on bolstering his back line, Livramento was identified as a player who could help City win back the Premier League title. However, negotiations are believed to have reached a standstill between the two clubs. City had been keen to bring in the youngster ahead of the Club World Cup, which starts next weekend. But the Toon are unwilling to part ways with the defender, who has become a huge fan favourite since joining the club. Newcastle splashed out an initial £32million, rising to £40m, on Livramento in 2023 following two years spent at Southampton. And with Newcastle to be competing in Europe’s premier competition once again, boss Eddie Howe is determined to keep hold of their key men. Howe expressed his frustration at transfer speculation linking Livramento with a summer switch to the Etihad Stadium earlier this season. He said: “It goes without saying (that he’d want to keep Livramento). Livramento started in 32 of his 37 top-flight appearances in the 2024/25 campaign The 2024/25 season proved to be Ait-Nouri’s best to date, having chipped in with five goals and seven assists from 41 games in all competitions. And City have also reached an agreement with AC Milan for Dutch maestro Tijjani Reijnders. A £46.5m deal has been reached with the Italian giants for the 26-year-old, who was recently named as the Serie A Midfielder of the Year. With City splashing the cash, they are also keen on securing the services of Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki in a £25m transfer.
