Liverpool’s first pre-season game vs Preston live on free-to-air TV with Diogo Jota tributes planned

The Reds have since slowly begun their preparations for next season, with senior training held for the first time on Tuesday. Following consultation with players and staff, the decision has now been made to fulfil the club’s opening friendly against Preston. The pre-season fixture will take place at the Championship’s Deepdale stadium on Sunday, July 13. The match will be broadcast on free-to-air TV in the UK on ITV1, which had been the case prior to Jota’s death. Their coverage will get underway ten minutes before kick-off, which has been scheduled for 3pm. Preston have already asked fans to be seated by 2:45pm to pay respects to Liverpool’s No. 20 and his brother Andre. As part of the tributes, Claudia Rose Maguire – wife of ex-PNE striker and Reds fan, Sean Maguire – will sing ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’. Anfield anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ will then follow, with Lilywhites captain Ben Whiteman also laying a wreath alongside the away supporters. We have all been completely shocked by the situation and, again, can only think of what this has meant to their family. That’s something we’ll take forward with the family and we want to have those conversations at the appropriate time. “Obviously they have gone through an unimaginable situation over the course of the last several days. We certainly will, obviously, remember both Andre and Diogo and at the appropriate time we’ll make those plans clear. “We’ve got the match on Sunday at Deepdale and we’ll of course remember them at that match. Then the tour, then we come back to Anfield and then the season starts, so we’re thinking about all of those moments. Of course, we want to make sure we do the right thing and appropriately remember both Andre and Diogo.” It remains to be seen whether Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Giorgi Mamardashvili will make their unofficial debuts. Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton are the only two players who definitely won’t play any part this weekend. The pair were granted an extended break following their success with England at the U21 Euros in June.
