Over a decade after BØRNS made us all swoon with “Electric Love,” AVELLO has revived the track with a soaring cover, out now via Thrive.

The rising DJ and producer translates the glam rock dreamscape of BØRNS’ breakthrough 2014 hit into crystalline dubstep, managing to preserve its romantic urgency while completely obliterating its delicate restraint. While other producers massacre indie darlings with cookie-cutter bass drops, he has crafted a euphoric banger that feels both familiar and startlingly new.

“I have a strong sense of nostalgia for songs from this era,” said AVELLO, noting that the original was one of his favorite songs from high school. “I love hunting for tracks that I used to play on repeat but may have forgotten, and giving them my own twist.”

BØRNS’ walk-on-air lyrics remain intact, pleading that love feels like “lightning in a bottle.” In his voice that metaphor was dreamy, as if some sort of cosmic kiss might cure the loneliness of the world, but AVELLO’s brand-new vocals reframe it as dangerous voltage.

When the first drop hits, that line stops being metaphor and becomes a simulation of electrocution, jolting us into a sonic space where intimacy feels explosive rather than tender. Here, AVELLO layers the original’s ethereal falsettos atop quivering LFO synths and thunderous saws.

Prior to its release, “Electric Love” received live support from a handful of high-profile DJs, including Subtronics, Excision, Alison Wonderland and EDM.com Class of 2024 trio Levity. It has the feel of a breakout for AVELLO, who recently signed to UTA for bookings and collaborated on unreleased music with the influential melodic dubstep duo Adventure Club.
