‘Landman’ Creator Taylor Sheridan Has A Favorite NFL Player…

If you were wondering who Taylor Sheridan’s favorite NFL player is, that tidbit was revealed yesterday during Monday Night Football.

It was a strange game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Atlanta Falcons last night. The Matthew Stafford-led Rams were expected to take care of business, but instead, they were bested by Bijan Robinson and the Falcons. Atlanta looked like a Super Bowl caliber team… which must be frustrating and confusing for Falcons fans, considering the team will finish the season below .500.

ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast had Joe Buck and Troy Aikman in the booth covering the game, and at one point, they got to talking about Nate Landman, the 27-year-old Zimbabwean-American football player, who has had quite the season defensively with the Rams.

And as you might imagine, Troy Aikman made the connection with the linebacker and the popular Paramount+ show:

“Landman has had a great year…. He likes being called Landman. Great show, great linebacker, great name. I mean, it just all ties together. The interesting thing- guess what his sister’s name is? Ocean Landman, and she was a swimmer at Oregon State. So there you go.”

Fun fact about Nate Landman’s sister… Ocean Landman is quite the unique name.

But anyways, later in the game, Aikman and Buck returned to the topic of Nate Landman and the Sheridan show of the same name, and the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback had another fun fact to share. Troy Aikman is evidently on a texting basis with Taylor Sheridan, and he was able to confirm that the Los Angeles Rams star Nate Landman is Sheridan’s favorite football player:

“There’s Nate Landman. By the way, I did hear from Taylor Sheridan, and he told me that Nate Landman is his favorite player. No surprise there. He’ll have to get Nate Landman a pair of cowboy boots.”

Even if that’s just a Troy dad joke, it makes a lot of sense, does it not?

Come to think of it… not a bad idea for other TV creators out there. If you choose a semi-recognizable NFL player’s last name and then name your TV series to match theirs, then you’ve got free publicity for your show anytime the player does anything out on the field. It’s smart marketing… Taylor Sheridan is always a couple of steps ahead of everyone else, eh?

And I know Troy said that Sheridan is going to have to send the NFL player a pair of cowboy boots… but why not just get Nate Landman to cameo in Landman? Earlier this season, the NFL on CBS asked if he would have any interest in a cameo in the Taylor Sheridan series, and the NFL player responded as if he had been waiting for someone to ask him that very question:

“I’d love that. I love the show too. I’m excited for the second season to come out. Definitely put that word in for me.”
