Lainey Wilson Shares How She & Duck Hodges Maintain Their Bond Amid Busy Schedules: “You Have To Carve Out The Time”

Carving out time for themselves.

Lainey Wilson and Duck Hodges are headed to the altar, but not anytime soon. The former NFL player-turned-real estate agent and Lainey Wilson took their relationship to the next level earlier this year when Hodges got down on one knee at George Jones’ estate.

Wilson shared after the proposal that she had a gut feeling it was happening on the day it did, but after she brought it up to her sister, her response made her doubt her instinct. After trying to convince herself it was not going to happen that day, Wilson was met with a pleasant surprise pulling up the “Same Ole Me” singer’s estate.

“But we have been wanting to go see the George Jones estate for quite some time, and his buddy had it listed for sale, and we were at the Super Bowl the weekend before, and he was like ‘Hey, we need to go next week to go see the George Jones estate. That way we can just say we’ve been at the George Jones estate.’

And then as we pull up, I realize that there were different plans. So he had it all set up, he had the candles and the picture frames, and it could not have been more perfect.”

After accepting the massive ring Duck got her, she jokes that she’s now going to make him wait to see her in a white dress since he made her wait four years before popping the question.

“I told him I’m gonna make him wait. He made me wait for 4 years. I’m gonna make him wait before we start planning this thing. We hadn’t really covered any ground on it just yet, but we’re taking our time and it’s gonna be right and it’s gonna be beautiful and, you know, what it’s supposed to be about.”

While Wilson might be giving Duck a taste of his own medicine, given where both of their careers are, it’s hard to imagine that Wilson can fit a wedding in anytime soon. Given that she spends a significant portion of her year on the road, and Duck Hodges is grinding to build his real estate business, it feels like the two are very focused on their careers right now.

However, despite having completely different schedules in this chapter of their relationship, when Wilson is off the road, the two always make sure they carve out time for each other. Wilson confessed to People Magazine that part of the reason their relationship has been successful is because of their dedication to spending time with each other on off days and down periods.

“You have to definitely carve out the time. It has to be something that you’re very aware of, and you’re like, ‘Okay, I’ve got a day off here in 10 days. I’ve got to dedicate that day to spend time with my person.’ And we both need that and deserve that, and it’s always great. We just try to soak up those moments as best as we possibly can.”

Wilson can acknowledge that their relationship is far from “normal” due to her career, but she boasts that Hodges makes it easy for them to maintain their strong bond while she’s on the road. She also said that Duck Hodges has never made her feel like she can’t keep shooting for the moon with her goals.

“But I’ll tell you, he is good as gold. Supports me, would never come in between anything that I’m trying to do.”

That sounds like a gem of a man, and Wilson deserves it. When the time comes for them to walk down the aisle, I know it’s going to be filled with bell-bottom goodness.
