A team of champions.

Football is BACK, which means fantasy football is also back in full swing. While some folks get out of the gate in the first weeks of the NFL season, bucking out of the gate, other folks, like Darius Rucker, are questioning their drafting strategy.

For those who are not aware, Darius Rucker is known for his weekly football predictions, but his predictions might be off, given how his fantasy football team performed the other week. Out of his five, yes, FIVE, fantasy football leagues, Rucker went 0-5.

But another country music star is hoping to have better luck than Rucker when he was asked to draft a hypothetical fantasy team, and I’ve got to be honest, it sounds like this lineup would put up some big points.

While speaking to Road Dog Texas ahead of his show at Tarleton State’s EECU Center, Koe Wetzel was tasked with building his dream country music fantasy football team. He had to pick a quarterback, a running back, two wide receivers,  and a tight end, and his selections did not disappoint.

“Alright, I got you. Quarterback, Parker McCollum. He’s like, you know, probably a straight A student, he’s straight laced, good looking, and he’s just jacked up. He’s probably throw it, stay in the pocket, throw it around. Smart dude, so we’ll go (with) Parker quarterback.

Running back, I don’t know. Yeah, I’ll put myself at running back. Yeah, we’ll go me running back.”

Then Wetzel checks to make sure that he can venture outside of Texas country artists and puts on the gas with his next pick.

“We’ll go, Riley Green, wide receiver. I’m pretty sure he played ball, too.”

Side note: Wetzel is correct with that statement. Riley was focused on sports in his collegiate career, and he was actually the starting QB at Jacksonville State University from 2007 to 2009 after walking on.

Back to Wetzel’s picks:

“We’ll put Morgan (Wallen) up there (for) receiver. And who else? I got a tight end?”

Tight end made Wetzel think for a little bit, throwing around the idea that Jelly Roll might be a good pick, but eventually pulled a different artist:

“Let’s go, Randy Houser. Yeah, man, he’s a dog. I bet he was very athletic back in the day, too. So yeah, Randy Houser.”

I could see it.

With three of his five picks having a background in football, himself and Green having collegiate play experience, I’d say this team is pretty well off. Morgan Wallen might not have a background in football, but as a former baseball player, he has the athleticism to carry him as a valuable wide receiver.

@roaddogtx @Koe Wetzel knows ball! How many wins is this squad getting? And what changes would u make? #koewetzel #koewetzelmusic #countrymusictiktoks ♬ High Road – Koe Wetzel & Jessie Murph

Many social media users were also loving this draft from Wetzel and shared their thoughts on who should play what on their hypothetical team. I do have to admit the only change I’d make to Koe’s draft is swapping Riley Green for Parker McCollum, given he was a college QB. Other than that… this is solid.

“*Koe digs deep into his bag of tricks* Randy Houser TE.”

“Randy is an elite pull.”

“I say Zach Top for TE.”

“I love that he put himself in there.”

“Randy was a good call for TE.”

“Morgan at QB bc he likes to throw things.”

“I would put Hudson Westbrook as a running back because he was in Stephenville, and he went to state and won.”

“Pecos Hurley at TE would have been better.”

“Give me Hudson Westbrook as running back, Gavin Adcock as TE, Parker McCollum as QB, Ty Myers WR1, Vincent Mason WR2.”

“Switch Parker and Morgan. Wallen got that QB, and Parker got height to jump.”

“Zach Bryan as a tiny RB would go crazy.”

If only we could figure out how to make a country music fantasy league… we will hit the drawing board and get back to y’all on that idea. The post Koe Wetzel Drafts A Hypothetical Country Music Fantasy Football Team & It’s Pretty Stacked first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
